460 Miles and Hit & Run
I've been kinda down the past couple months with some health issues and haven't really had a chance to drive the new X5M much. So I'm at the doctors office last week Monday and happen to walk over by the windows to see what the weather is like outside when I literally before my eyes watch a driver of a pickup truck back out of his parking spot and keeps going, going, going, NO, STOP, BANG, right into the back of my brand new X5M with 460 miles on it!
So he then pulls forward a bit and backs up as if he's going to stop, lets another car pass going the other way and then TAKES OFF! I wasn't able to get the full plate due to the angle and only got a couple of the numbers. I call the Police and they come out to do a Police Report and say that they'll keep an eye out for the pickup truck. I also let the Security Guard lady know and give her the description I go home for the day feeling even worse than I started the day off. So I'm back at the doctors office on Tuesday again (I have to go for a few weeks for Physical Therapy) when the Security Guard comes in and asks to see me. I come out over by the windows and she asks is that the same pickup.... YEP, parked in the spot one over from where it was yesterday. They call the Police back and the guy admitted to being there the day before and said he never thought he hit anything but he had insurance and a clean driving record so the Police asked me if I wanted a Hit & Run Ticket issued to the driver. I told them that so long as we found the truck and the driver has insurance that I was fine with not having him issued a Hit & Run ticket and they said they had all the other details in the Police Report etc... I brought it by my local BMW dealer and they gave me an estimate of $2500.00 for the repairs. It needs a new rear bumper cover that has to be shipped from Germany but they said all the parts were in stock and it would take about a week to complete the job start to finish. Just really sucks and not what I needed these days. Picture of the damage (minor) and where I was standing and literally watched it happen.

@BMWOO7 , sorry to hear that. Good thing that guy got caught and has insurance.
I hope you get well soon though. Also, maybe time to invest on a dashcam.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but at least you caught the guy and his insurance will pay to fix it. Still, unnecessary aggravation that you have to go through.

So sorry you're going through this. At least, not that it makes it any better, the damage was fairly minor, and your investigation paid off with locating the perpetrator, so you can file against his/her insurance. Here's hoping the repairs will go off without a hitch, and you are able to focus on getting healthier!
