Windshield smashed!

I was on a highway today and was driving around 55mph, no trucks around, next thing you know I can see this rock, the size of my fist smashing against my windshield.
I'm only glad the rock didn't go through the windshield because that would turned out terrible.
Called safelite and got quoted for $725 including labor, tax and all other bullshit fees they charge..I have HUD so they said it's a little bit more expensive.
Here's a pic of the damage..

your insurance should cover that with no out of pocket deductible.

Lol, I've gotten quotes of 2-3k. I smashed mine on the first month of owning it but the damn crack makes me smile so can't replace the thing.

Sorry for your misfortune though, I forgot to answer your wheels thread but your car did look awesome with the new set

$725 is gonna be REALLY crappy glass. Go with an OEM replacement w/ a new rain sensor and all the right stuff included. Call your insurance; it shouldn't cost any less than about $2k.

Always get glass coverage with zero deductible, costs about 12 bucks a year. A lot of folks don't get the glass and when something like this happens really regret it. Living in AZ I go through a windshield every 12-24 months so it pays to have it.

Actually Safelite is pretty decent glass, I have their windshield on my E90 right now, it is even made by the OEM manufacturer. They also install glass better than most from my experience.

My insurance quoted at $260 additional a year for the glass coverage. I skipped it. Now this. Shit happens. Could have been worse. That rock could have gone through and messed with my good looks

Yikes! That must have been startling.

Did the rock clear the rest of the car?

Man that's awful, but the important thing is you came out of it without getting hurt. A patient came into the hospital once when a tow-hitch fell off the truck in from of her. Smashed through the windshield and obliterated her top and bottom jaw amongst other injuries to the face. Glad the BMW windshield protected you this time!

In terms of the HUD, is it simply just reflected onto the windshield? I don't think it should cost more but I could be wrong here

That's terrible. I am definitely glad this was the extent of any damage to the car and myself.
In terms of hud I think it won't reflect on just any other glass. Need to be special glass, hence the pricey tag.

When I called for a quote, they told me that t would be BMW oem glass because of the HUD. I was happy to hear that news obviously.

Sorry about the trouble. Good to hear it's just a fixable nick to your hot rod and not your noggin.
If your insurance covers this and your deductible is less than $750, consider the local BMW dealer. AAA pushed Safelite but with no price break for me. The local BMW dealer did a great job and I won't have to deal with an 800 runaround if there is a problem down the road. Just sayin' . . . Good luck!

Yikes, that must have been scary as hell.....Glad it's just the glass and no other injury or damage!

Hell I was pissed when I was driving home from Boston on Monday pm and got a rock chip on my windshield while driving on 287 in Jersey.

That is decidedly more than a rock chip.

Funny (or not) how our ED babies are now getting their first little dings, lol......

Haha man I try not to worry about things I can't control. It was so odd a rock that size flying around with no big trucks in sight.
Getting this replaced as I'm writing this reply.

Hope you're enjoying your baby just as much as I am

Absolutely! 7K miles since ED in May and this isn't even my DD

And yep, no sense in worrying about these things....just sort of adds additional character to the car/experience. I have a little gash on the bottom-most panel under my drivers side door...nothing major, and I will patch it up. The important thing is that i'm loving the way the car drives and that it feels wonderful every single time I start her up and go off. I'm sure you relate to that as well.

You'll be all set and back to normal in no time.......

All done. Good as new. $725 in total for OEM glass. Going to call my insurance and check how much it costs to add zero deductible glass coverage.

Yeah man. Can't worry about that stuff.
Since May I've done about 5600 miles. Did 2400 during ED

Enjoy it brother

glad it was just windsheild, it could have been so much worse if it went through or hit the body of the car or bounced and slapped the CF roof. Standard change of a windshield is probably the least amount of damage that fist size rock could of caused you.
