Mine in garage too, albeit I did mount one on to test fit maybe mid November or when temps really stay less than 5C. http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1187770

i heard in order to take advantage of the insurance discount,

snow tires must be installed from November 1st to April 1st.

but check with your insurance companies as that might differ.

I'm in Montreal.

My "magic dates" are November 15th and April 15th where I change between summer and winter tires. This has always worked for me.

40-45 degrees Fahrenheit is the magic number for operational temperature, if you're out driving and the temperature is consistently dipping anywhere below that you should notice significant additional hardness/feedback from the road and slippage potential, especially prior to the tires having a chance to warm up.

I'm going away for 3 weeks tomorrow, and when I return I'm quite sure it will be past time to put the winters on (NY). As of now today's drive in and out of work, and the last few days for that matter, have been beautiful and its been worth keeping the summers on.

Do we really have such a thing here? Lol, anything will help. Just insured the new car yesterday, $1200/yr, but it's the 3rd car in the family now with a 17 yr old suddenly becoming the primary driver of one of them. "Her" (lol) SUV almost tripled in price. Fml. I'll call them, all of our cars are equipped with winters but they didn't ask, neither did I though. Fingers crossed.

Beginning January 1, 2016, companies are obligated by law to offer a snow tire discount in Ontario on new policies and renewals. So you will not be offered any discount until your next renewal post January 1, 2016. But don't get too excited. The discounts are expected to be between 3% and 5% on the collision portion of your insurance only. Better then nothing, but will be lucky if it pays for a changeover at a tire shop.

Collision is like 90% off the fee at least. And I think you can call your broker/insurance co. and request an amendment after Jan 1. For me, it's a couple hundred bucks a year I didnt have before... which equals more car stuff!

Yup, called TD today and they gave me the same numbers. Their parameters for the discount will be that winter tires are to be installed "December through March".
