running e85

for those of you running e85 i want to know if you felt the difference instantly or if the car took a while to get stronger. I just started experimenting with map 2 and 4-5 gal of e85 and so far the car feels a little slower than it did with 93 and map 1. Fuel mass is connected and open loop set to 70. I did some logs and terry says car looks fine. i think my ignition is not as high as it should be

First pic is map 1 with about 6gal e85 second is map 2 with about 4.5 gal e85

Logs look fine. Fuel trims are good and timing is decent. Timing might increase a little more, but timing will not advance more than the stock timing map is tuned for. Just keep that in mind.

Start your pulls at 2500 rpm and go until at least 7000rpm. You'll need to do this in 3rd gear, unless you're on a dyno. Then do 4th or 5th.

Do you have any non-E85 blend pulls to compare timing with?

i do not have any non e85 but if you look at this other log runnign e30 and map 2 his ignition curve is a few degrees higher than mine. it makes me think im leaving some power on the table.

Just a quick note for those running E85...

85 Mixtures:

We've done limited testing with E85 mixtures and found that the platform seems to be largely tolerant to up to 4-5 gallons of E85 per full tank of pump gas. Higher mixtures normally result in fuel trims maxing out and engine stuttering or misfiring. Raising "open loop" from the default value of 60 to 70 can help allow a bit more power on E85 but may also increase the likelihood of a "fuel pressure too low" fault code. We suggest map 2 for E85 mixtures as it offers the best all around compromise of power and reliability with it. The Stage3 fuel connector is required for any E85 mixture.

OP 6G of e85 may be pushing the limits of mixes so keep an eye out.

thanks mike, 6gal was maxing out my trims on map 2 but map 1 worked ok. At the moment i have a full tank and have been driving around to burn some gas to add some more 93 and get back to ~4gal of e85. Any idea if the car will raise timing after a few miles on e85?

i will be taking my car to a local dyno and seeing what its actually putting down. I think my butt dyno got used to the power and now i feel it slow. Or DSC might be cutting my fun and im not even noticing it.

Went to the dyno today and spent some time logging and trying different maps. Best run was 477 whp and 508 WTQ on map 2 running 4.5 gal of e85. Map 7 was ok at 466 but i did not have my EWG connected. here are my logs and dyno pulls

cant seem to attach the csv files so here is the link to download them from my Gdrive

I've had the ESS E-Tronic tune installed for about 8,000 miles now and have been running a blend of 93 + 2.5-3.0 gallons of E85 for ~4,000 miles. No issues. I've experimented with up to 5.0 gallons of E85, increasing from 2.5 gallons in 0.5 gallon increments and have found 2.5-3.0 gallons to be the sweet spot. Haven't seen many posts of guys running ESS with E85. The car in an animal and the sound coming from the MPE really pops with E85.

I destroyed a 335 (assuming FBO or poser given license plate) today with Georgia license plate 1BE4ST, ironically just after topping off with 2.5 gallons of E85. 1BE4ST got spanked by NC ///M

Do you have any Dyno runs on just 93? Also the pictures won't load.

I had the same issue in my 335is is jb4. I felt like it was slower with the e85 but it's possible I added too much. I don't remember how much I added as it was 2 years ago.
