How much should I expect dealers to take off of MSRP on an M3
Hey folks,
I'm very much undecided and have been going back and forth on if I should get a new car...and if so - which car? I'm looking to see what I should expect to have taken off an M3 if I was to order one from a dealer. I see the F30 335 get about 10%-12% discounted all the time...I wasn't sure if the F80 market is that discount prone... I've read all the pricing threads, but people typically don't provide the breakdown of the difference between MSRP and Sale Price - so I can't tell if it's BMW incentive, down payment, trade-in, etc... Any help is appreciated as always folks. |

Average deal is around $1500-$2000 over invoice before incentives. |

Don't even try to negotiate off MSRP.
Negotiate over invoice. 1-2K over invoice before incentives seems to be what most people are paying. The invoice price for the car and all options is posted in a thread here so you should be able to find invoice on an F80 M3 yourself. |

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks folks. Local dealer was only willing to take $1,000 off MSRP - which to me seems shitty as I assumed the invoice was in the high $50's. |

I went to a local dealer last night to get a price on '16 M3, they offered me $86,000 (includes all the fees and Tax) out the door which I declined. I think it is still hard to get a good deal on M3s.

The biggest tell tale way of not getting a good deal is walking into a dealership and dealing from MSRP down. When you work the deal over email and offer $XXXX over invoice then the game changes. They know you have some working knowledge of how car sales works and it remove the emotions of buying a car out of the equation, which makes you more objective and willing to walk away if the deal isn't in your favor.

I think M3's are more difficult to negotiate on that M4's. I built my car online and negotiated $3350 off the price of that plus got them to pay off the final month of my lease. I also negotiated lower pricing on the M performance parts I had installed to that I found on getbmwparts.com also negotiated lower price on labor to install the parts. Had to go to several dealers before I could even get this deal.

I'm getting a full stripped version. Stick, Cloth Seats, 18's, etc... I don't need three cows of leather on my dashboard...I'm content with the way the car comes and the wheels I actually like. |

Which dealer was that? I have a guess due to my X5 purchase experience a couple of months ago.

It's interesting to me that "games" are still being played by dealers. I suspect it's because the majority of consumers are not car obsessed as we are and therefore don't do the proper due diligence when buying a car. Especially the case where I live--Miami.
I found a great dealer through a fellow member of this forum. No BS. Totally honest guy with a great approach. PM me if you want his contact info. The deal on the M3 was great too. Very fair. |

If you ever look around the dealership...80-85% of the people in there have never been on a BMW forum. They don't look around to see what the residual is on a lease or how allocation looks like for a specific car. It's just the way it is. People work on a monthly payment strategy as opposed to Invoice, Incentives and other cash allowances that are available as they don't sift through this information the way people on here do. |

As other stated, find the dealer cost (it's below invoice, but start with invoice, usually ~8% below MSRP), then subtract BMW NA promotions, then negotiate up from there. ED pricing and invoice price points are completely different. Don't mix the two. F30 and F80 markets are similar in that the above logic applies in full. But different, in that the margins on F8x cars are a bit higher, since there is a greater demand for the limited number of F8x allocations (supply chain throttled separately from F3x by BMW NA). It's business. It's what underpins the continuous dealer employment of 1.05M people in the US alone. That's more people working at the dealerships than building actual cars: https://www.nada.org/nadadata/ Quote:
Many people are just lazy. Others don't know how to count. Many others, including surprisingly a lot of members on these forums, don't mind over-paying for "service" and "relationship" with a dealer. With you, Miami guys, dealers just assume you are coming in brimming with coke cash... Quote:
