TSB: Paint bubbling under exterior roof trim strip

RECALL UPDATE: had the car in for service today. There was a recall for the paint bubbling under the roof trim strip. I have a carbon fiber roof. Not sure if it is for only for the CF roofs or if moon roofs are included? Do the moon roof vehicles have the roof trim pieces? The fix is, it is sanded down and repainted. This is all underneath the roof trim, so it is not having to match paint on roof etc. The bubble was about 1-1/2" long x 1/2" wide? I do not have any pics of it, but they showed me a pic of it.

Moderator Edit: I believe the trim piece in question is shown being lifted up in this picture. So the paint defect would be under this:

Sounds like more of a TSB thing than a recall.

Yeah, recalls are usually for safety-related issues or possible safety issues.

They called it a recall...I thought the same thing. Had it been important, I suppose I would have gotten something in the mail.

My guess is that since it appears close to the connection of the CF roof they don't want corrosion...but isn't this an aluminum body?

They also did not tell me until I set my appointment up. Not worried about it, seems minor.

Just hood and fenders. Lots of aluminum in the suspension parts too.

Yes they do.

By the way, I updated your post due to somewhat confusing terminology. I believe most people think of the following as roof rails:

http://www.google.com/search?q=roof+rails

Which our cars don't have.

I brought mine in last week for an oil change and they told me about the same bulletin / campaign when I arrived. However they said they checked it and no repair was necessary. If something was wrong I'd want it fixed, but would not be happy about any sanding so close to the CF roof, which is covered with PPF.

Thanks for the heads up OP! Going to inspect my car later but I think I'm good for now *knock on wood*. I have my CF roof covered in Xpel but I don't think the actual pieces covered in this TSB were included in that coverage.

Oops i misunderstood the post I thought it was the trim piece being lifted in the pic that was under TSB. Just realized it's the area underneath that trim piece, I guess I'll have the dealership check it out in May during my next oil change.

Thanks - will check this out on my car. FYI that exact piece of trim on mine has been loose for ~10,000 miles. Some clips holding it in were busted (not by me!) and I noticed it looks fine but flexes a bit more than it should. Wonder if when I lift it I'll find some bubbling. Would be quite displeased but at least with Alpine White, if there is blending to be done, it's super easy.

It's under the trim piece. Any work, from what I am told will be under the piece and no blending will be required.
