My car is in production - a few questions
Well, my car is in production with an estimated completion date of 4/21!
When the initial order came up on the BMW tracking web page yesterday I was initially horrified to see that the trim option had somehow changed from carbon fiber to anthracite wood. I looked back at my last build sheet and sure enough, that was is listed. I was so busy making sure a manual rather than DCT was ordered, I didn't check the trim as I knew carbon fiber was the default. I'm actually OK with it now, especially after seeing these pictures: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1193748. Now this car will match my E39 M5! Anyway, I was toying with the idea of calling Genius on Monday just to see if the trim can be changed back to carbon fiber. Does anyone know if this is a waste of time? I know that things generally can't be changed after production starts, but trim has to be one of the last things installed. I was a little surprised that my car is being built already given my ED pickup date is June 3. For those of you who have done ED, is that unusual? Thanks in advance!

If it hit 150 status it's too late. I don't think genius could change your order anyway, they told me it had to be done by dealer but I could be wrong.

You should definitely call your dealer and ask them, it shouldn't have listed anthracite unless you specifically told them to

What does your VIR say? Call your dealer right now and ask him to e-mail you a copy of your VIR. The VIR is the "build sheet" and this is something you should have requested from your dealer long before your car went into production. My CA e-mailed me a PDF of my VIR and asked that I check it in detail to make sure everything was the way it was supposed to be, then sign my name at the bottom, take a picture of it, and e-mail it back to him.
The BMW website is notoriously incorrect, but usually before a car goes status 150.

Genius will not be able to help. They will only refer you back to your dealer.
As previously stated, I also had to sign my VIR verifying the order was as I wanted. My CA and I went over everything 3x to compare my notes to the VIR, his notes with VIR, VIR from initial order to VIR of what is actually being ordered. A little tedious, but wanted to make sure everything was right.

However, you can always swap the trim pieces or wrap them to your liking once you get the car. An no its normal, it takes a bit of time for them to make the car, then it has to be shipped and prepped at Welt for your pick up. Also, I am not sure if there aren't any line shutdowns or holidays that could effect productions and that always plays role. Please post tons of pics, video and don't forget the food. |

Thanks guys. I reviewed all the different build sheets that were generated just now and found the one where the carbon fiber trim was mistakenly changed to anthracite. I just didn't pick it up because I was was paying attention to options and knew carbon fiber was the default. So, in that regard it's my fault. I didn't have to sign the build sheet - that is a good idea.
I'll call my CA on Monday and see what can be done. However, I'm at peace with the Anthracite at this point; as Doc points out I can swap it out if I don't like it. I will definitely post lots of pictures! I'm starting to get all the pieces of the itinerary in place. And my TrakkTape came yesterday! P.S. Doc, thanks for the reassurance on the early build date relative to my pick-up date!

Thinking about it my car was finished on my Birthday, then sat almost a month before I did my laps around Welt. Also, this makes sense because you have to pay before you pick it up and everything paperwork wise has to be done prior to you arrival. An when you do what little paperwork you have to do at Welt its all just sign here, here and here.. and want some food.. beer.. free tickets ... and tons of smiles |
