Clarkson's C63 S Review....
Makes some comparisons with M3 (which he prefers)
http://www.driving.co.uk/car-reviews...edes-amg-c-63/ ...though being British, he still has to hold out for the Jag above all else.

"This is not a good looking car". So many share the same sentiment. I, for one, think it's too graceful and elegant while lacking aggressive posture. Perhaps when I'm 67 collecting SS, I'll appreciate it's body.

- they are 0-62 times (or 100 km/h) not 60. - and the mpg would be in imperial gallons, not US gallons. that solve things? Edit - I couldn't let it go, had to look it up: Those are the right numbers for the M3 on the UK website... http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/new-vehic...nicaldata.html ....likewise the C63 http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/cont...ical-data.html ...and I should probably of course note that he wasn't tracking those down. some research dude working for the paper would have had that job.

I agree, but also disagree, with Clarkson. True what he says of the Jag, but also true that the Jag is not in head to head competition with the M3. Perhaps a future Super R version, but not the current model. The Merc, on the other hand, is, and like he says this car is confused as to what it wants to be. AMGs are no longer German muscle cars, yet they are not flexible and nimble machines as the M3, either. I also agree that the C63 is just plain ugly, especially the rear, and in this segment, at this price point, this is not an insignificant point.
A point not explicitly made here, but implicitly present, is that cars in this segment cannot solely be judged on stats alone: 0-60, 0-100, top speed, breaking, skidpad, etc. There is something about the package, the looks, the feel (inside and out), the noise, the history of the brand and significance of the marque, that are as important as, and sometimes even more than, the Ring lap times. |

The Jag isn't a real competitor, but JC loves the E-Type and the F-Type so this follows that love. What is more interesting to me is the AMG vs M debate he has, as he has no particular national dog in that fight.
