M3/M4 advertised 0 to 60 times

I'm curious if anyone knows the answer to this question. BMW USA advertises the 0 to 60 time as 3.9 and BMW Canada advertise as 4.1 (both DCT) but the horse power and torque numbers are the same. What gives?

Hi,

100 km/h equals to 62 mph. I think this is where the difference is coming in the numbers given by BMW USA vs. BMW Canada.

In the UK they more and more refer to 0-62 mph when giving their numbers because everyone else is using the metric system.

Are you sure it's to the same speed? Could be to a faster speed in Canada. Seen that before but can't remember why or if it's 62mph, or a metric conversion.

Don't flame me, it's early on the West Coast.

Colder air in Canada is more dense than US. Takes longer to accelerate.

I think I may have even read/heard 3.8sec 0-60 somehwere.

Edit: found it, it was motortrend

"For all intents and purposes the new 2015 BMW M4 coupe is the two-door version of the 2015 BMW M3 sedan. Both cars are powered by a twin-turbo, 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine making 425 hp and 406 lb-ft. Power is sent to rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. We’ve tested two examples of each model, with the M3 sedans reaching 60 mph in 3.8 and 3.9 seconds and the M4 coupes reaching 60 mph in 3.9 and 4.0 seconds."

Yes, I thought about that. Not sure which effect more than offsets the other. I think if you are approaching Mach 1, thinner air is better.

As others have stated, Canadian numbers are 0-100km/h (62.15mph) not 0-60mph.

Just clarify things for the F80/2 (non cab) :

3.7 0-60mph for the GTS
3.8 0-100km/h for the GTS
3.8 0-60mph for the DCT CP
3.9 0-60mph for the DCT base
4.0 0-100km/h for the DCT CP
4.0 0-60mph for th 6MT CP
4.1 0-100km/h for the DCT base
4.1 0-60mph for the 6MT base
4.2 0-100km/h for the 6MT CP
4.3 0-100km/h for the 6MT base

Good info. Thanks!

Actually, I think 100km/h is closer to 62.1mph, but that was the only thing I could find wrong with your post.

Yup, typo on my part. I skipped a digit: 62.15mph

The numbers quoted by BMW do not exclude a one foot roll out from the acceleration run as used by most US publications. This is worth a few tenth. Car and Driver even got a 3.7 second 0-60mph from their M4 DCT road test.
