IPASS problems
So earlier today I put an IPass in my 2003 2.5 Z4, and all of a sudden, like within minutes afterwards, all the keys i had just totally stopped working. I have heard online that the IPASS in a Z4 will sync with , and fully reset the central locking, is this true? And if so, what can i do to save my keys/central locking?

1. Does the central locking button still work?
2. Have you removed the ipass and reprogrammed the keys to the car, then tried to use it again with the ipass out of it? you can find the reprogramming info (or have a valet at the dealership do it) by searching some of the forums. I've forgotten most of it, so i'm useless here. Haven't seen you around lately, how's school. Also, you should hit the age thread, you might be the youngest with a Z4.

Im gonna guess its like SunPass (the thing you stick on your windshield, so you can drive through toll booths at 80mph.

Yeah no, this procedure thing didnt work at all, one key worked like 1% of the time, and the other doesnt seem to respond to anything at all, this is the procedure i used:
Get in Car Lock doors turn ignition on then off within 5 seconds hold unlock, while holding unlock press the lock button 3times in ten seconds release lock doors should unlock Yeah nothing seems to be working, i assume the dealer cost to fix this will be high, unless somebody has/finds a procedure that works

It seems like the Frequency the key fob works off of on the Zs are extremely prone to interference. I'm guessing the iPass is on a similar freq and throws everything haywire in the system. I dunno what a good work around would be, unless the mirrors on other models use different frequencies.

no problem with my iPass. I keep in in the lock box between the seats when I am not using it, then mount it with suction cups behind the mirror when I am using it. No issues.

If you truly are having issues with the IPass, you may want to go buy one of the ones that mount on the license plate instead. From http://www.illinoistollway.com:
Can I use I-PASS if I have GPS or a special windshield? A very small percentage, less than 1 percent, of vehicles have windshields or systems that interfere with transactions using the windshield-mounted transponder. In this case, a License Plate Tag (LPT) which mounts on the front bumper of your vehicle is available for the same price as a standard transponder. Buy online, call 800.UC.IPASS or refer to the Customer Service chart for more information about obtaining an LPT. Learn more about special windshields. |
