Foot sensor in rear bumper?
Options and Standard Features
The 2015 X5 M comes in a single trim level with almost all the fixings. Standard features include 21-inch wheels, adaptive sport-tuned suspension dampers, a rear air suspension, quad tailpipes, an M body kit, adaptive xenon headlights, LED fog lights and taillights, a panoramic sunroof, a power liftgate with hands-free operation (via a foot sensor in the bumper), |

Correct...it is on the X6M but not the X5M. I heard it's because of the two-piece tailgate.

I heard this, too, and I think it's asinine! I open the top half of the boot at least a couple times a day, but the bottom half, maybe once a month when I lug stuff home from the garden or hardware store. I would LOVE to be able to swing my foot under the bumper and have the top half open while I have my hands full of shopping bags. It was poorly thought out by BMW, in my opinion!

The reason is because the exhaust takes to much space ...
I think that regular X5 F15 have the foot censor , even though , the tailgate is also in two pieces ... |

Thanks for the clarity on the foot activation

No shit! You know everyone has been begging for a door lock button on the door, (WHERE IT SHOULD BE) for a decade. Finally we get it and its like BMW thinks it took a lot of thought process to give that the OK. Now it will be 2020 and the stiffs may start putting remote start on their vehicles and then act like they actually contributed a good bit for it. No Active Cruise also, what? No room for it ??? That's BS |

It's because emissions people are complaining about it and I think there are anti-idling laws in Europe. Nevertheless I added a plug and play remote start myself for about $600 from a company called Kickystart.
