F8X steering

This weekend I had the opportunity to test drive a 2016 F80 M3 Comp Package.

I currently own an E92 M3, and one of the main reasons why I purchased the car was because of its short steering ratio 12.5:1. I absolutely love the dialed in steering after some alignment adjustment on the camber and caster with the Ground Control Coilover sleeves and its camber plates. I have done a couple of track sessions with my M and another aspect I really love about the car was is of course the S65 Motor and its high revving V8.

While I really can appreciate the F80 and its curves one thing I was really dissapointed on was the actual electric steering. The steering even in Sport Plus mode felt very soft compared to my E92 and I didnt feel that the turn in point and feedback from the road was nearly the same. I understand that the F80 does have a factory alignment etc, however I wanted to hear back from some of the members to see what their take was on the steering with some suspension modifications such as wider wheels/tires, camber/caster adjustment, etc.

Please feel free to share, only looking for feedback and positive criticism. I understand that some prefer a more comfortable street ride, however I am really looking for the old school no PS heavy steering wheel feel. Can it be done with the F8X, or should I just hold on to my E92?

Thanks in advance,

If you care about tracking the car, you should read this thread. http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1281156

CanAutM3 had a detailed comparison between E92 and F8x including steering on track, and he has been tracking E92 for 6 years!.

If you don't care about tracking the car, yeah, E92 steering feels more lively on street. Maybe try M2?

Get the F8x, install the Fall Line Motorsports solid aluminum front thrust arm bushings, flash the GTS steering settings whenever that becomes available, and don't worry about it.

Call me crazy but, I've found comfort steering to be much more communicative than either of the other settings. The steering wheel subtleties produced by ever changing levels of front axle grip are completely hidden underneath the high baseline resistance of the other two modes.

Nope I agree completely. Track times went down significantly as I was able to trust the car.

Yet another thread started by an E9X owner to stir up a very old and well beaten topic in this forum.

Negative camber up front greatly improves turn in. The car with the oem alignment feels lazy to turn in and rotate relative to a proper track alignment.

What alignment did you end up dialing in? Just remembered you had coilovers, heh - what's the max available on stock suspension?
