M performance trunk spoiler install

Guys

Are you using the Genuine BMW Betalink K1 Adhesive or 3M double sided tape for the M performance trunk spoiler installation ?

Secondly is it easy to get the stock spoiler off without affecting the trunk clear coat and what tools were used for it?

Thanks in advance !!

I used the glue & 3M. Depends on whether you want to sell the spoiler on later. Also, glue provides more peace of mind. I drive on the autobahn at speeds exceeding 200km/h so felt better gluing it, as did the mechanic

This should work great:
https://www.amazon.com/3M-38582-Exte...+adhesive+tape

You can remove the existing spoiler with fishing line/dental floss, then rub with alcohol to remove residue and prep the surface. Dry fit the spoiler in place (i.e., no adhesive tape), then use blue drywall tape (or whatever else), and place pieces at the edges as a "stencil" or outline. Then apply the spoiler with adhesive tape in the same place, and press down around all edges.

If you glue it will it be difficult to take it off later and damage the trunk?

A few more tips as I installed both 3m and a beta link before. Betalink is awesome and recommended for high speed... But also hard to remove. With the 3m tape, make sure to get the VHD version so that its heavy duty. When removing the existing spoiler, you can pull the adhesive that remains on the car in a way that removes it easily almost without trace. Don't scrub it off. You have to pull away from the direction you are trying to remove...

When you install with the 3m make sure to heat it up and place it without removing all the 3m tape cover. Just enough to be able to pull it out then press and pull the cover to unveil the adhesive side. Make sense?

Second the one that is labeled "VHB". If you properly clean and prep the surfaces the bond can be quite strong. I also swabbed with Adhesive promoter.

Thanks to all of you for the great tips. As I dont work on my car for any kind of installs do you think the spoiler is better to be installed by a body shop rather than a install shop.. i reached out to my local shop and he recommended me to get it done from a body shop.

Does BMW use betalink if you do port install? If so, then use 3M instead since my previous spoiler that was port installed came loose only after 3 months.

Just do it yourself. Heat up the old spoiler with a hairdryer to loosen the old tape then slide fishing line under it to help cut the tape. Get some GooGone to remove the residue then wipe down with rubbing alcohol to prep for the new tape. Just use the red backed 3m tape for install of the spoiler and you will be good. Don't need anything else.

Have a buddy help with the install for perfect positioning and use blue painters tape to mark the exact placement. Peel the new tape and slowly lower onto the trunk deck following the guides. If it takes more than an hour i would be shocked. It will cost you about $9 in supplies and you will have a sense of pride doing it yourself versus forking over your money to a shop that will laugh all the way to the bank.

If it is the old tape that was peeled off then yes. Use the GooGone or good old fashioned thumb to remove all traces of the old tape. Once removed spray a rag with brake cleaner or rubbing alcohol to prep for the new tape. This should give you a like new surface for the new installation.

No diagram needed. Get a friend to help and use blue painters tape to mark left/right and front/back location. Then peel the mounting tape and carefully follow the tape alignment.
