My mid afternoon vent

How one would want an X5M in NY city area is beyond my comprehension.
I live on the North Shore of Long Island and for the past month mind you without back to school in progress to get to city or even down to south shore or out east to the hamptons or in between.... EVEN on a friggin weekday is unbearable !!!!!. Traffic everywhere. Car would never see full potential unless on a track or driving up north to upstate, berkshires or VT.

I believe an X5M driver would not be fighting the traffic everyday. Probably once and then either leave very early or late.

Why would anyone want to own a car in NYC period? That is why satan invented trains and taxis and buses.

LI has too many people and it's been this way for at least the 25 or so years I've dealt with heading out east. Hate it and it simply can only get to "bearable" at around 2 in the morning. It's just the way it is dude. Awful.

My daily commute is less than 3 miles....it takes me minutes to get to work....it's just not a long drive...but at the end of a crappy day or when I travel for work and I've just gotten off a long flight and I walk up to and sit in my car, smell the leather and the B&O tweeter pops up and the stereo starts playing....all other thoughts and concerns are whisked away. Hence the reason I got my X5M. I may not get to use it daily...but when I do get to push it and really get on it...it's amazing!

A short commute is sometimes what you need to make ownership of a high performance car feasible. A long commute can be bad for servicing, fuel and resale value.

Same here, it takes me 5 minutes to get to work. I'm still excited to get in my cars every day, and they remind me of why I work so hard.

And sometimes I make excuses to drive longer just because I like it.

when i had mine i hated driving in manhattan. fast suv in slow city but the RRSC was far worse... not just mpg but the size of it. the plus, other vehicles were more aware of the full size RRSC and pedestrians rarely continued jaywalking. not so common in smaller vehicles.

I'm in oyster bay....my daily commute to williston/willis ave is only about 9 miles, but boy oh boy do I have some fun some mornings, vettes, i8s, couple of porsches. On my way home I take all the winding roads through mill neck going way out of my way. such a great way to get a smile on your face before I go home.

My commute is 15 miles from an outer borough to NJ. The trip can take 20 minutes or 1 hour depending upon time of day. Although I don't need to, I leave at 6:30 am. I know it's going to be a good day when all the traffic lights are green, no one is ahead of me on the entrance ramp to the bridge. Ideally the traffic is light and cars are perfectly spaced for a clear and spirited sail. I reach Starbucks in 20 minutes. They see me pull in and have my coffee ready when I walk in the door. I'm sitting in my office at 7:00.

I drive out to see customers on LI and normally time it so l leave after rush hour and make it back before. It's not a science, I've made it out there in less than an hour and then got stuck in 2+ hours traffic coming home but I still enjoy my car time - that's my happy place.

The best part of ownership is the road trips. I wake up the birds and I love to hit the road early. I get goosebumps seeing the wide open road ahead.

Well done! Nicely described!

You're tempting me to get up, grab my keys and leave the office now. I was already planning to cut out early (who schedules a noon meeting on the Friday before Labor Day? )

I want to get this wheel bearing tick fixed though! Suppose to drop off the car at BMW Bayside next Wednesday. But I'm free whenever for a meet!

vince7870 is a few miles down from me.

What were you thinking? I took off today and Tuesday

You're better off staying all day now. Traffic will be brutal, everyone is running out early today.

Oh, so true. But it gets worse. So the person who decided to schedule the meeting decided to also work from home and not tell anyone. [pause] So I was sitting in a conference room looking like the Hulk while our meeting planner was home. [Probably in pajamas, drinking a Bud.] I was/am not pleased.

Luckily, I am only ten miles from home. I have a plethora of routes, some more direct than others. All invoking prodigious feats of speed.

I'll cut out shortly.

now that summer is "over" and people are getting back into a structured routine perhaps we could do an autumn gathering captree or obi or something similar for a cruise/meet.
