ACM exhaust mod question

I'm having a shop do the ACM mod and my shop is telling me in order to get a good weld in they need to open both sides of the muffler (as opposed to just one side as i'm seeing in most of the acm mod) does anyone if this is true? they are not charging me extra or anything to do the extra work so money isn't a motivating factor.

i just wonder if other shops were able to do a full weld securely without opening the other side or if there is supposed to be a small area not welded?

Typically a small area is left unwelded. you can tell them just get as far around as they can if you don't want both sides opened.

thanks for the respose, don't mind having both sides opened just wanted to make sure there was no reason for leaving a bit unwelded (for maybe sound or airflow reasons)

My shop opened both sides. I think it's better to have the pipes fully welded.
