Torn between M3 e92 and RS5
Most of you who will read this will ask why im even bothering between the two as the prices are so different. Money really isnt the buggest concern as I will be selling either in about 6-8 months.
Just sold my supercharged R8 V8 and am buying a Scharged v10 next year. So this is to get me by. Between 2008 m3 Meist exhaust Adj susp 73k miles $28k Or 2013 Rs5 Capistro exhaust Stassis susp K40 radar Stassis mono wheels 16k miles $57k I love the awd of audi, but also really intrigued by the m3's NA kotor (why im not going newer model M, sold my 14 M5) Input appreciated |

To own for the timeframe you refence, neither is an attractive alternative to me thanks to depreciation; especially on the '13 Audi.
Is there nothing else you would consider for those few months?

A person with your discriminating tastes will be wasting their time with either of those choices. For the exotic palate I'd suggest the P1, or the Porsche 918 as appetizers...followed by the Veyron...and for dessert why not go for the Chiron?
Let us know which of these you buy and of course we needed the pics! |

the M3 is great fun, but 08 with those miles is going to be a little worn compared to that RS5. If you're going to keep it for a little and sell it they both have ups and downs..
The benefit of the M3 is that it won't really lose any value considering its 28k.. But if anything goes wrong you're stuck with a repair since its out of warranty. The RS5 probably has warranty so you're good to go, but it might lose value.. I would say go drive them both and see which one you like more. I came from an Audi and love Audis as well, but the M3's RWD is SO much fun to slide around and toss into corners. |

Big deal for a few month and as you say either the M3 nor the RS5 counts really in comparison with what you had and whats coming. For interim the M3 for sure, less money out and less depreciation.

M3 just because I think you'll lose less money when it comes time to sell.

I'd get the M3 if I were you.
Only real concern regarding any problems is rod bearings, which you can do as preventative and it is a piece of mind for your future buyer. If you get bored, throw a supercharger on it for a bit. If you had an R8 V8, the RS5 will be a larger, heavier version, with a worse weight distribution and AWD that will not be as fun. If you also decided to supercharge the V8, you weren't absolutely in love with the engine. All things considered, nothing is unique/better about the RS5 vs. your R8 beside the electronics. Try something new - RWD and screaming V8. Enjoy the last of the BMW greats before it gets too old. |

lots mentioned on resale value, but based on "reading into" your OP does depreciation really matter to you? we're not talking a loss of many thousands of dollars here. the audi RS definitely has its fan base but seems to be less appealing to the younger gen wanting a "fast" car.
since you drove both what stood out for each car? you're only gonna have this car for a short while, 6months? buy whichever gave you that initial grin👍 |

I would go with a Porsche. The GT3 is no joke and is a great deal of bang for your buck.

drove the rs5 before buying my m3. went with the m3 since it's not a daily driver so awd isn't needed otherwise rs5 would have been my pick.
each obviously has theirs pros and cons. i will say, there aren't many better sounding cars than an audi v8 with a capristo exhaust on it. not in the price range at least. they're both great cars. the rs5 felt much more planted than my m3 from what i remember but it doesn't have close to the same fun-factor as the m3. in my opinion, you can't go wrong, buy a car for how it makes you feel as opposed to the numbers it puts up...even if it's only for 6-8 months. |

Audi RS's are so expensive. Their V8's require a carbon cleaning every X amount of miles if you are a good car owner. Everyone thinks that if they buy an Audi V8 sedan they have the R8 V8, but they do not. The R8 V8 is closer to the RS4 V8 than anything in its current gen. That is why it does not have the same carbon build up issues (that I know of) that all the sedan V8s have.
