BMW recommended M oil 5W-40. Wha?!

I came accross this video today:

Now, I know this oil has been an option for the s65, but if you watch the video he states this is replacing Castrol/Shell 10w-60 as the recommended M oil for s65 and M engines. I cannot find anything out of BMW to support this.

While I know the argument had been made time and again about the lighter oil being better for the rod bearings especially on cold starts, I find nothing from BMW stating to use this oil over castrol/shell 10w-60. Am i missing something?

Edit: to be clear, i know this is being used on the s55, but have never seen a BMW recommendation to use 5w-40 in the s65.

I wouldn't trust that video or anything from a guy who looks like a homeless person on YouTube.

Keep in mind that the M6 used is a 2016 with the 4.4 litre FI V8, not the previous V10, so there is little to be learned with respect to our e9X V8 engines and oiling requirements.

So much bad info

High mileage cars, woukd need thicker oil especially if bearings wearing as more clearance is essentially created .

As mentioned new m6 going in circles is a model that has nothing to do with the old v8 and v10 m models.

No dealer is recommending penzoil. In any v8 or v10. Old m cars .

This guy is just not knoweleagble.

And there you have it. BMW does not recommend using 5w40 except for top-offs.

This dude's videos...sheesh.

Effectively they are as the new 10w-60 BMW oil is now made by Pennzoil/Shell.

Seriously? It wasn't enough that this MagneticFusion guy spams the forums with his pointless videos for subs and views, now we have other people doing it for him?

Business must be bad. Gotta get that Adsense check..

Wouldn't this 5W40 be similar to the Mobil 1 0W40 many are running here now?

magnetic fusion, if the pennzoil 5w-40 is the right path for our s65 then why does bmw still use 10w-60 twin turbo (blue bottle) for dealer oil changes?

For a second I thought he made a new account to post his videos to the boards but OP has been around a while and has other posts. Not sure anymore.

It's possible that op found his garbage videos and posted it to see if it was legit.

Shaking my head

It is interesting that Shell recommends 5w40 though.

Bingo. My impetus to post this was not only to sanity check the thought in my head that this info was correct, but also to make people aware if it was complete BS.

My biggest red flag was the implication that this was coming from BMW.

I have no idea who this guy is or his past activity on this board.

This. Not sure what it is about this guy, but he just irks me, and I am generally nice and accepting of everyone. Do I come off as an asshole on here? Sometimes, yes, but I'm very sarcastic and dry even in person, but that's just me.

I'm a fan of all the popular YouTube car vloggers..Stradman, Doug Demuro, Peter Beattie, Vehicle Virgins, etc. but this guy I just couldn't get into. I watched 43 seconds of one video and had to turn it off.

Perhaps it's the fact he steals other people's video ideas (his "Does a BMW really get you girls" is a ripoff of Doug Demuro and his "5 Things I hate about my M3" video is a ripoff of something VV has been doing for almost every car they review), or maybe it's the fact that he whores his videos on these forums for views and subs and has ABSOLUTELY nothing else to offer these boards.
