driving with TMPS lights on
I bought 08 M3 wheels with tmps from someone and I have 2013 M3. the tpms lights aren't going away. the car drives fine. wheels are mounted and properly inflated by bmw mechanic.
Any reason I can't keep driving it with the lights on till spring ? |

Its not that expensive to get the correct sensors and have them installed but you can certainly drive around with that annoying light on if you don't want to deal with it. Or...you could get the TPMS light coded out. Personally I'd get the correct TPMS sensors and be done with it.

I agree. The TPMS sensor is your way of knowing if you have a slow leak in a tire, and gives you the opportunity to fix it before you lose an expensive tire and potentially an expensive rim on the road.

there are no problems with driving with the light on (assuming the sensor is the only problem)

I'm assuming you did try to reset the system from the I-drive menu. If that is the case then besides getting new sensors one option is the Mach Snell TPMS emulator. It fools the system so the light stays off. I think this emulator runs under $200, while you're looking at about $100 each for the TPMS sensors plus install. If you needed to replace the tires in the near future then new sensors maybe worthwhile. |

when my oem tpms go bad, i'm not replacing them, just coding them out. what happened to competence required to drive a car? look at your tires when walking up to your car. simple as that.
op, you're fine to drive for as long as you wish.

My M+S winter tires have no sensors and I live with the TPMS warning. Annoying, but not to the point it's worth spending money on to correct. Check your pressures regularly, ensure you have a can of fix-a-flat and a working air pump.

Whether you wish to install the correct TPMS or drive with the annoying light on dash is completely up to you. Some just consider the TPMS as an early warning and some wish to visually inspect their tires every so often. Either way there's no right or wrong.
Simply your preference |

Tpms saved my behind a couple times already. Yes, it triggers false alarms when there's a swing in temp, but I'd still much rather have this feature than not.
I'd get tpms personally but if the light doesn't bother you then just drive with it on, won't do any harm. |

i had a sensor detect a low tire recently that i would not have noticed by visual inspection. it's easy to fall out of the habit of checking tire pressure. visually, there's not much difference between 22 and 32 psi

The TPMS light is highly annoying on '08 with the Tech package because of the number places (three idiot lights/screens) it insist to show the warning.. Seriously, it wipes out the entire tech display rendering it useless for showing anything else like phone, nav, the radio, etc.. Massively annoying. |
