Goodbye for now!

I am in the process of selling my 2015 M3 6MT due to a job move, and getting a X3d to drive the family around Spain. it has been fun and glad I got to drive my dream car, even if it was just for a little while. I guess that's one of the sacrifices I have to make for my family...all I know is that I will be back and at least I'm not leaving the BMW family.
Thanks for all the help...and smart ass comments from everyone.

Tschüs!!!

If you own the M3 and sell it, that would give you a huge amount towards the X6M right? Can you not finance it bro?

Seriously, that's the best of both worlds, power + practicality for the family

I never understood why people flock to the likes of X3 sized cars over something like a 3 series or in this case M3. As someone pointed out already the interior is the same size. Maybe the x3 has a higher roof which isn't needed for a child. The trunk in the M3 is plenty big. When I was a kid my parents did just fine without a SUV.

The only benefit I can see of an X3 over an M3 for a family is that it would be better for camping or potentially safer in deeper snow. Other then that it doesn't make sense to me.

Now if you really need extra room for multiple kids, feel the need to over pack etc I can see the allure of an X5 or X6 type size.

Have close friends with a kid and some kind of disastrous SUV type thing and all I see is them always over packing and generally doing a piss poor job with space management.

He's moving to Europe where driving an M3 around will be very expensive due to gas prices. So he no doubt figures, if he's going to get a diesel, it might as well be one with a hatchback and a more efficient/spacious interior.

I personally would look into a diesel wagon but I can understand the SUV route too.

I realize the m3 is a mid-size sedan, and the x3 looks like it's identical except for 10 additional inches of height.

However, there are two perspectives to add to this:

1. That 10 additional inches of height is mostly passenger space. It's about a 15-20% increase in passenger volume from height alone.

2. Additionally, the passenger cell is much more upright - meaning the seats aren't slanted as much. Meaning there is more overall passenger volume. Additionally, there is no rear slanting glass - it's a cube. So the trunk is about ~3x the usable volume of the m3 with the seats up.

While I can agree passenger legroom and whatnot is only marginally better due to the more upright nature of sitting, the usability of the space is far greater for family duty than the m3.

I'm shopping an x3 right now (among others) as a replacement for my wife's e61 535xi wagon. And at the moment I'm putting 4 tires in my m3. So I'm very aware of spacial realities

We are getting an X5 with third rows for when family comes to visit. Still searching for a diesel 3 series, or X3. Sometimes is not about the exact size comparison, but about what feels right with three kids on board.

Good Luck but I know we'll see you back soon... The M will be calling you soon and you will find yourself whispering "Precious... my precious..." every time you see a F8X.

Because people have different opinions? : maybe he just doesn't want to deal w an m3 in Spain and have something a little more chill , nothing to lose sleep over

Aren't there also more taxes on a 3.0L gas engine vs. small diesels?

Hurts to sell an m car for a diesel suv but i think you made a good move op.

Why keep around a $ car if the environment isn't right to enjoy it

Thanks for the encouraging words. Well, the X3d arrived and picked it up. Only issue is that I didn't realize I didn't have the bi-xenon lights....other than that, got 36 MPG after a day of driving. Here it is!!!
