Thermostat cel?

So recently I got a cel for having a faulty cel. Anyone ever seen this before? Not sure how the dme even knows how a mechanical component like a thermostat is bad. I'll grab the actual code tomorrow. Just wanted to see if anyones ever had a similar code before ordering parts.
Car has 93k on it. Never overheats. Only mods are a macht schnell cat delete and a bren tuning tune to disable the cel for no cats.

The computer actually watches how fast the engine warms up. If it takes too long, it assumes the thermostat is stuck open. Mine did this about 70K. My daughters Jetta did the same thing. There is a great DIY.

Sometimes it will show as a increased emissions CEL. But when you read the fault it will be your tstat.

Good to know. So just a new tstat and I'm good. I'll get some new orings too just to be safe.

Any particular reason why? Nothing wrong with it and it doesn't look very difficult to change if I needed to later on.

Preventative maintenance. If you want to wait for your pump to fail and shoot pieces of plastic throughout the cooling system then by all means wait

They should be changed together.

It's not an E36...

OP, at 93k you should just replace both. Water pump is a wearable item, mine went out around 90k and I did pump, Tstat and coolant flush at that time.

For those of you replacing your water pumps, are you using GEBA, OEM, or OEM refurbished units?

And if you are going to replace all of these then you might as well replace the temperature sensor as well - it's the cheapest part of the three.
