2013 E92 M3 Tires Worn at 15,000 Miles?
First thread!
Anyway, I'm looking at a used 2013 e92 M3 with over 15,000 miles. The tires, especially rear wheels' tires, are very worn. Is that a sign of heavy tracking or aggressive driving, or is 15,000 miles normal for performance tires' lifespan? I tried searching but couldn't find anything. Thank you. |

Welcome to one of the high performance luxury tax. I average around 20K on my M3 but is not my DD. I get about 12K on my 540 M-Sport and about the same with my P-911 and that's not counting any track time. Of course a lot depends on your driving style and your chassis setup. That's the penalty you pay with high performance rear wheel drive cars, but i sure do have lots of fun doing it. Typically I purchase 4 rears to 2 fronts. Sh$t, now that I'm thinking about it, I should purchase some Michelin stock next time around since I'm a regular contributor to their coffers. Keep in mind, purchasing the car is the easy first step. The real expense comes afterwards especially if you keep up with the required maintenance and of course the MODS!!! BTW - you may need a little insurance as well, and perhaps an Extended Warranty? and don't forget your good friends at your State (Property Tax). Good luck with your decision(s).

My 2013 e92 has 8000 mile and has the ORIGINAL P Zeros on it...they do not wear as well as the PSS's do. They are in great shape and I expect them to go at least another 8K if not more. I drive it like I love it...not like I stole it!

10-12k mile life on high performance tires you cant rotate is pretty standard from my experience and nothing to worry about. People tend to leave that kind of thing to the next owner when selling; a desire not to drop another dime into the car at the time of sale.

Re-11 on my m3. I have gotten 20k out of the rears but I also get an alignment done every 2-3 months. I replace fronts when I do rears. Fronts are usually at 50percent tread left but due to being lowered and negative camber I get uneven wear on the fronts. Plus I'm OCD and like a complete set of fresh rubber! Lol

My car has 527 to the wheels with a AA level 2 sc on it. I drive aggressively. I have done one track day and 6,000 miles on my pss and they need to be changed. 😢😢😢😢 Oh well.

Since its winter in Miami and it doesn't rain much I'm going to do one more track day and see if I can get at least another 1k miles out of them before buying new rears.

Regarding tracking, you can't always tell from the tires since a lot of people that do lots of tracking have a set of wheels for the track. A good indicator is the brakes. If the front rotors have a lot of little micro cracks in them, then the car has probably seen some decent track time. At only 15k miles, the pads and rotors should show very little wear.

If it makes you feel better I bought a 20k miles m3 with rotors worn down to near minimum but there is no other signs of track wear. Last edited by opihi5; 12-01-2016 at 12:04 PM.. |

Do you measure them with a depth gauge? or do you just think oh they look worn?
I ask because as I am sure you know many performance tires look like they have no thread from the beginning. |

When I bought mine with 11.5k miles it already had 2nd set rears on. Made me a little bit nervous but had to have the car. When changing again at 18.5k miles I realised its the way they go with this car. Without driving hard at all. And this include wintertyres for a good 4 month of the year.
