2010 m3 PPI - advice
This was my report:
2010 BMW M3 Coupe 58,930 miles Moderate tire noise while driving - tire 2012 production date All tires have Scalloped wear - recommend changing Passenger front wheel bent - inner barrel bend - recommend replacement SMG lower trans pan seeping - likely require pan replacement in next year Light flecks of oxidized metal embedded in paint in many locations - all will likely be removable by detailer Engine codes: Work performed - DME 2B59 coolant thermostat monitoring Thermostat stuck open, not current, confirmed engine reaching correct operating temp DME - 2772, 2771, o2 sensor pre cat B1/B2 diagnosis - reaction too slow 2X, 2727 o2 sensor plausibility pre-cat b2 1X no SES at this time No engine misbehavior at this time, slight uneven idle, normal for this engine What do you guys think? Tire wear: suspensions going out? Oxidized metal - car parked outside? Bent one wheel, parking/pothole? Transmission pan change (how much would this run?) Thank you! |

It all depends on asking price. Not unusual for a six year old car that might not have been babied to have the list above.

Replace all four tires, replace bent wheel and have a proper alignment done. Do you know a true detailer? It might be worth having a complete Iron-x treatment, clay bar, paint correction, sealant type detail done. Have the DCT pan replaced -- have the PPI shop quote the fee. Tie all the above into the sales price. Most sellers would not agree to pay for a full detail I would assume however, but you can probably negotiate some off for the condition. Unless full records come with the car, I would immediately change all fluids also.

depends on asking price. dct "seeping" would be my biggest worry. but if the price is right, it's something i can look past after replacing.
just view the wheel issues as an opportunity to buy yourself a new setup that you really want. o2 sensor stuff is minor but i'd still factor it into the buying price since parts for these cars add up quite a bit. the mileage is right around that range where issues tend to pop up with cars. i try to typically find them around 40k or 75k miles for this reason. some of the issues listed could be correlated to that idea. wouldn't scare me away but it's just something you have to be prepared to deal with. i wouldn't buy it (for the right price) unless i planned to immediately have all of what's listed above replaced/fixed and i would definitely try to extend or purchase a warranty for it if possible. the more service history the better. an oil analysis wouldn't hurt either. and as mentioned already, change all fluids for peace of mind. Nothing listed screams this is a pos. Just factor it into the price. I would change the spark plugs and at that mileage realize the struts/shocks tend to be more on the worn side.

If you're asking would I but this car for myself to keep, the answer is no. Now if you're asking would I but this car if it were priced right to do the repairs and sell it and make a profit, the answer is maybe.
Hope that helps... Good Luck! |
