Exclamation Urgent, 18 or 17 inch, and narrower tires on Competition Package rims?

Bought my used M3 yesterday and today it starts snowing in Chicago lol....

Tried searching and googling, but to no avail.

1. Can I put 18 inch or 17 inch snow tires on my E92 Competition Package rims?
2. Does whether they fit depend on more than just tire size?
3. What's the narrowest tire size I can put on Competition Package rims? Is 195 mm too small?

Thank you! Trying to go to Costco asap.

Check the Great Lakes regional forum. There were a couple sets of winter wheels on there. Some were in Chicago area.

Technically there is no difference in the brakes on a ZCP as compared to a non ZCP. So any rim that fits an E9X M3 will work. Some who track their cars have run 17" rims, but you need to verify offset and if they used spacers. I run the OEM 18" 270M wheels for my galoshes.

Tire Rack has a warehouse in South Bend so you should get quick turn around from them. I get next day using regular shipping in Cincinnati.

Maybe I misunderstood your original post, but you need to put a 19" tire on a 19" rim.

Wrong. Competition rims are 19". I would not put any winter tyres on them, 195 is way too narrow, BTW. BMW's standard winter solution is a 235/40 R18 on a ET20 rim (model M270), but there are many similar aftermarket options available.

235s are but too narrow for an M3 even in winter, I would recommend 245/40 R18 ET20 and since that is too little offset for the rears, with 12mm spacers.

Another 18" option are the M260/M219 in a 245/265 staggered setup.

Speaking from 7 winters of personal use with my e92... I don't believe there is any 17" wheel available that will clear brake calipers and limited 18" options. Most common is to run the oem 18" bbs wheels or sport edition a7 through tire rack. 235 is a good size and I used for first 6 seasons. I just got a pair of 225 blizzacks last year and it is noticeably less grip/stability and would not go any narrower.

Really? You searched and Googled winter tires for E92 M3 and NOTHING came up? Damn, you must suck at using the interwebz.

What does this even mean?

Jesus lol. It sounds like you are best served by going to a proper tire shop and getting them to handle it if you'e not even sure how something as fundemental as tire sizes work...

There is a limited selection of 17" that will fit. Track Rats use the to lower operating costs.

I say that 18" is a good choice for winter setup.
I drove M3 in Ottawa, 20 to 30cm a snow storm for many years.
BMW OEM work fine, Excellent. All depends on winter tires.
This is nothing between right and wrong, only a preference.
Even BMW OEM winter setup is 18". You can visit BMW website.
OK
Thank you.

What I meant was your answer is wrong regarding the OP's question. He obviously does not know much about rims and tyres. Had he taken your answer literally, he would have gotten 18" tyres for his 19" rims - that's what he asked about.

I am with you that 18" is fine for winter - but not on the competition rims, as I pointed out already. To put it short: Sometimes, a short answer is just too short to be right.

I would put more emphasis on the type of tire rather than the size.
