2018 Dodge Durango SRT
Do you think this a fair competitor to the xdrive50i model? Or is it?

Believe or not, Durango was the hottest car you wanted to own when I was in high school. I still remember the day I was mesmerized by audio control button that was placed on back of the steering wheel. My friend was controlling the audio volume without touching the head unit WHILE DRIVING and we really thought it was some sort of magic. It was the coolest thing before G35 came out with stick out navigation screen. hahaha.

On paper it sounds great but when you get into the vehicle you will see where it falls short. Also I could live without that hood and the tail lights that look like sunglasses from the 80's.

I'd rather have a Jeep SRT

it is insane... it reminds of the mk7 or mk8 lincoln rear tail lights that are blinding.

I like that they mention the "Viper powered Ram RT/10." Funny, since the motor for the Viper was an aluminum casting of a Ram 5.9 liter Magnum V8 (with two cylinders added). The 10-cylinder block had been initially conceived for the Ram 2500 to begin with but was handed over in blueprint form to Lamborghini and made it to the Viper first.
The Durango is a neat vehicle and provides a lot of bang for the buck. They don't really compete for many of the same buyers. That said, that Hemi is probably at least as reliable as a BMW V8. |

I also like the GC SRT. Almost got one if it weren't for the condescending dealer sales guy.

Heck, I went to look at a new Grand Cherokee before getting my X5. Not only did the salesman try to hard sell me on a junky 7 year pay-day loan with a ridiculously high rate after I told him I was a finance professional, had perfect credit, and would arrange for alternative credit or pay cash if he couldn't get me the loan terms I wanted, but he also tried to convince me that it was perfectly normal to take home a new $60,000 car with significant trim damage (must have been damaged on the lot or in-transit) because I could just bring the car in to have it fixed later under warranty. Needless to say, I walked. |

Same issue Volvo is having with the XC90. They have no highline experience or clue how to operate a highline dealership. Majority of the dealerships are not even up to date and will need massive renovations or new locations must be built. It is the first thing I noticed when I came in to purchase the Inscription and if I am noticing this at $70k what the "excellence" buyer going to think at $105k+?

I was close on a Cherokee SRT when I opted for my X5. I just couldn't justify spending $90k on a domestic, let alone a Jeep. The interior felt cheap to me. It was a BEAST to drive though, with great handling and power. I did my research and quickly decided against it. My local Dodge Jeep dealer has a horrible reputation, that was the final stake in the coffin for me.

I've leased an m5 and a hellcat charger
I think an x5M and the srt Durango would be a similar comparison The m5 is fast and refined The hellcat is faster but noticeably cheaper on the interior For what it's worth, I do enjoy the hellcat more as a daily driver and the m5 serves as my weekend car My wife has an X5 and wouldnt be caught dead in a Dodge (hellcat or Durango ☺️) |

The last Dodge I owned was a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Sport w/ the Cummins engine. Absolutely beast of a truck, and problem-free for the entire decade/100K miles I owned it. The dealership experience, on the other hand, was something I dreaded. A good friend of mine just sold his Grand Cherokee SRT. Nice looking, and was probably fast in a straight line, but the interior was a letdown. He hardly had 25K on the ticker and the leather was already cracking and ripping. No thanks. He got rid of it once he started having transmission issues.

IMO, the best performance SUV for the money is still the X5M (E70 or F15). The best 7-seater "performance" SUV would be a GL AMG.
