Definitely looks like a more robust solution than what we've seen previously. It's still not technically keyed to the crank but, let's hope keyed to the hub is enough of an improvement to address the issue.
Are there any details on it? Like what the cogs are made out of? I'm hoping they are machined parts that have just been sandblasted or shot-peened and not printed metal. |

Given the forum assassination of TPG, I wouldn't be too hopeful.

I would hope to see lots of miles put on this before anyone claims its a fix.
Engine shops, Gintani, TPG, everyone states the only real fix is to key the crank. Sub'd for more info and would be interesting to see it used in more then 1 engine with supporting mods etc. |

As I was getting bootmod3 flashed on my car, I spoke to Mike about this potential fix for our M3/M4's. If I recall correctly, this will not be a very cheap fix due to labour. It should be available for everyone soon enough. Mike was gutted that his car only has a few thousand miles and he's owned it for a few years now, all thanks to the damned spun crank hub.
Either way - exciting news for everyone that wants some peace of mind. I'll be going port injection running full time E85 in a week or two then it's time to look into this fix for the crank hub. I dare not run upgraded turbos until this is addressed first.

Yes I JUST caught that, it had just gone public the day I posted this thread so a lot of great developments/and achievements for the F8X cars all in one day! Congrats to TPG on being the *first* to take the 9-SEC 1/4mile record All the crap they went through on here (and in general) they deserved it* ...the next one (8's!) will only come after single turbo exhaust manifolds are made for these motors

Interesting design. If those pins are matched to precision drilled holes in the crank snout this is a 100% solution. The tricky part is how to index the hub and gears to the cams. That is one of the reasons BMW did not key it in the first place.
i would also add some radius to those sharp corners. In a high vibe environment like this those can lead to crack formation.
