Driving today 35-40mph and the low coolant warning comes on and I pull over right away. See coolant pissing out driver side front and leaking passenger side front as well. Splashes of it on the front of the MPower plastic cowl. Big reservoir empty and the back smaller one still full
Any idea what broke? Called BMW roadside to get a tow. You |

Also not leaking from the middle. Leaking from both sides of the car (more so from the driver) which is odd. Looks to be coming down from above but who knows. |

Have it towed to the dealer and let them fix it.

Also coolant up top around the plastic cowl cover and a little bit on the top of the forward facing rad. Look like it sprayed around which would make sense if it was a split hose under pressure.[IMG][/IMG] |

Update shop said bolt came loose from my BMS intake and punctured the radiator. Think it got sucked up by the fan shot into the rad. $1500 to replace the fucker ($400 part and 7.5 hours labor). Obviously I am out of pocket on this as warranty won't cover it do to aftermarket intake.
Shitty part is I never installed the intake the PO did and they came with the car. |

Nah I am not going to lie and I can afford it so no big deal...shit happens.
Odd too because when I was trying to see what was leaking the front intake was loose and almost coming out of the accordion pipe by the passenger headlight. I didn't know how tight it was or should be but I thought it was strange that I could pull it out with little to no effort. Still don't know which bolt either, I asked my SA to send me a picture of the carnage but nothing yet. Might stop by tomorrow and have a look. Last edited by f80er; 06-12-2017 at 05:21 PM.. |

Cracked the case on this mystery.
Stopped by the dealer and worked with the SA/tech and service manager to find out where the bolt came from. Tech found it right up behind the front BMS intake and it looks like it was picked up by the fan and shot into the rad. But where did the bolt come from? They thought it was from the intake but we quickly ruled that out as there were a hand full of identical OEM bolts throughout the engine. There was an M4 parked right next to my car so we compared the two engine bays and it was plain as day where the bolt came from. Looks like PO took the brace off to put the intakes on, dropped that bolt down into the bay (base of RAD) and then used one of the torx screws from the airbox to bolt the brace back down. Then it sat there for 9k+ miles before it decided to make an appearance into the RAD. The torx screw below should be the bolt above. |
