CSF Front Mount Heat Exchanger / MSR front mount intake fitment
So I went thru some major changes and upgrades in the engine bay the past month. Intercooler, DCT cooler, Charge pipes, Heat exchanger and Intake.
Here an issue my shop ran into during install. Specifically in regards to the combination of the CSF Heat exchanger with the MSR intake. I can't talk about any other variations nor is this thread intended to discuss if Intakes make power or not! It is intended to help everyone who runs or wants to run MSR intakes with the CSF heat exchanger upgrade. So here is what we ran into. The CSF heat exchanger is significantly larger than the OEM one. In depth we probably talk almost 2in vs OEM. Which is great and obviously makes sense for the cooling aspect of it. But in return causes a fitment issue if you run the MSR front mount intakes like I do. The velocity stacks that keep the filter in place and connect the 90 degree silcone pipes are with the install of the new part in the way and hitting the Heat exchanger and can't clear the corner. I am not one that takes no easily for an answer and my local shop PartsScore in Scottsdale, AZ is always up for a challenge as they already did other custom work for me in the past. Anyhow, the shop went to a small R&D and ended up modifying the velocity stacks and weld them back together in order to keep running the intake, which I am so in love with. (I honestly don't care if it makes power or not. They look freaking awesome period) So here a couple of pictures, courtesy of PartsScore, showing the clearance issue, Size difference of the parts and modification of the stacks. Unfortunately no pics were taken after re-weld. I can't thank Jason and the team at PartScore enough for making this happen as well George from MSR and Ravi from CSF helping to overcome this hurdle during the install.

I'm shocked this didn't get anymore responses than it did.
I will probably encounter this problem with my MaximumPSI intakes later today... I'm bringing the stock intakes with me to the shop just in case. /sigh.... Thanks for the post Phil!

No problem Brother. The product is still pretty new and I think most people that think of upgrading the heat exchanger run either drop ins or regular mounted intakes like eventuri. I hope it works out for you anyway. Who knows maybe the velocity stacks on yours clear the new exchanger just fine.

It's the standard version. The race version requires additional modifications. If you run no aftermarket intake or an intake that remains in the engine bay, no modifications will be required. The part actually fits like a glove. Of course CSF did not go thru R&D with every optional intake ppl can buy.

I was considering the Dinan Front mount. I have the MSR as well.
Isn't the Dinan a little smaller than the CSA? Wonder if same issue? The MSR absolutely make power, and they sound insane. On the same topic......The Porsche GT3 RS has the side air intakes that look like the Turbo intakes. However on the GT3 RS they are not for cooling they are for Ram air (Cold AIr) Porsche claim an extra 15Hp with these. Now on the New GT3, they have the scoops on the boot, they also claim that they will give an extra 15Hp at top speed. So obviously, Air intakes out in the Cold air Do not make any power at all. (Insert sarcastic voice here. )

I heard that the CSF "race" version is not going to be a continued production built product. I would like to see some logging information to show that the modifications needed for the "race" version is beneficial to the standard one. |

I originally had the AWE ColdFront Heat Exchanger and switched to the CSF Street version front mount. The CSF is definitely bigger... but it fit with my Maximum PSI intakes without issue.
