Anyone wrap clear vinyl over carbon fiber roof?
My 08 came equipped with a carbon fiber roof, and ive read some clear coat peeling on m6post. Has anyone tried putting a UV protectant type of film over the carbon? I just wash and wax the car and worry it might cause sun damage.

UV protection films is something like a car tinting? A thin layer of a "advanced plastic" on the hood?
Does it have something like a darker toned colour similar to a tinted wrap used on cars? Considering doing this, but need more knowledge abt it and understand it better. |

Ceramic coating will help with UV exposure but will not protect against chips like 3M or Xpel films which protect against UV and rock chips. You'd be surprised how often I see roofs with rock chips. It is quite common.
Roof film application is a fantastic idea on a carbon roof. It's a relatively easy surface to film but requires 60" wide film which not all shops keep in stock. Might cost about $400-500 for a pro to install it, at least in my area so ymmv. |

I don't think wrapping the roof is necessary since it's not an impact area. More protection is never a bad thing, but I think that money could be better spent. Xpel charges $400 just for the film for the roof of an M3, plus you will need to pay for the paint prep and install -- I bet you won't get out of there for under $800.
I'd take that money and just get a ceramic coating for the roof which will give UV protection, ease of cleaning, and a nice shine for several years. Spend your money on Xpel for the bumpers, hood, and fenders.

I got a clear wrap for the whole car. Used ClearGuard Nano SR which is probably the most optically clear wrap available right now. It's a custom wrap, no pre-cut templates, and so clear you can't even tell its been wrapped.
Pros: 1. Protection, especially from bird dropping 2. There used to be some bird poo etching on the carbon roof that would not buff away. Once the ClearGuard went on, it could no longer be seen 3. Self-healing. I've personally seen bird poo etching the film, and then it would heal and the marks would disappear after a day or two. Amazing! Cons: 1. Price. Good wraps like ClearGuard aren't cheap. If you go for a cheap wrap, it looks horribly textured and will yellow in a year. |

Quite easily in fact. I already have a couple in mine and it's only used in summer.
