Ohh boy. This is a long shot but here goes.

My wife needs a car. She likes the X3, the direction I'm clearly pointing her in, and the Lexus NX.

She's leaning toward the Lexus, so I figured I'd ask if anyone here has had one of these...things, and whether or not you like/tolerate them. I trust fellow M3 drivers opinions more than others since many of you value driving and responsiveness like I do.

We've driven both multiple times.

And yes, at the end of the day, I want her to be happy since she'll be the one driving it daily.

well, what is her goal with the car? a ton of luxury features? does the care about the "feel" of a car? does she like a decent amount of power? fuel economy/commute?

my fiance had a lexus is250. it was a comfortable car, it just reminded me of a camry wearing a tuxedo. drove soft, little engine power, but comfortable and decent. she now drives a 335d. she has come to love the power as well as the fuel economy (she likes that she doesn't have to stop as often for gas). one downside, the seats aren't as comfortable as the lexus.

so drive a variety of cars and figure out what she likes the most.

Indeed, we did, and the Lexus seems to be the winner.

Buy the Lexus if she likes it. Should be more reliable.

Hard to agree when I've got an F30 with 85k and no issues. But yes if she likes it better than we'll get it. Just wondering if anyone has one here.

Hard to look past the Golf Gti in my opinion. Face lifted version comes out in October I believe. Comfortable, very practical, reliable, cheap to run and reasonably priced. Much more engaging to drive than a crossover / SUV or cooking Lexus.

New gen lexus's build quality is superb. It will drive easy and be very comfortable. F-sport doesn't add too much to the NX, so I wouldn't consider it really, unless it means that much to you.

My girl has a nx200t and its great. Only 25k miles but not single issue. Drives pretty nice for what it is. Little quicker and more nimble around town than I thought it would be. Very quiet and smooth at any speed. For a daily driver its a real good little SUV. Her mpg is insane too. She filled her tank and drove from Baltimore Maryland to Boston Ma then drove to work 2 days before getting fuel. That's all on a 16 gallon tank. Don't know the exact mpg but I couldn't believe it.

My wife drives a 2013 X3 xdrive 35i m-sport. currently has 92k on the odometer. She loves the thing. Tried several times to get her to trade it in and it's been a no go! lol it's been a great vehicle with the only failed part was the charge pipe which is fairly common. It's a mini beast of an SUV. I've pulled my 25' boat with it before and it pulls great with ease. Fuel economy is decent on the highway. I've never purchased a car based on the fuel economy. I buy what I enjoy driving!

I had nothing to do with that haha! She wanted all of the driving assistant items and panoramic sunroof, and that was the only X3 left with all packages she liked.

I know she'd rather space gray, but since the car is at the end of its lifecycle, choice was limited.

Smart to stay out of it then. She picked a winner Blue.

I've been flying a shiny new jet and didn't get a chance to play!

I would have submitted: "I'll take what are Sports Activity Vehicles with 355 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, Alex?"

I test drove a X3 xDrive35i M Sport and I vote it SUV most likely to succeed as a sports sedan - amazing handling!

Congratulations on your new Bimmer! Enjoy your "Ultimate Driving Machine!"

We kept her Acura for now, as the dealer went back on the deal he gave us. Well probably look at a new G X3.

My wife drives a '13 X3 and really seems to like it, but I totally regret buying the car. I had a loaded E70 4.8i a while back and loved everything but all of the problems it always had. I guess in the back of my mind I convinced myself that the X3 was going to be like a 7/8-scale X5 that got better gas mileage, but it feels way too small and cheap inside and just feels completely different to drive.

It feels like it's got more in common with a Ford Escape than with an X5 and is totally devoid of that 'hewn from a single piece of steel' like the X5.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but it's just that I'm disappointed in the car.

I'll piggy back off of your thread. My girl's car is just about to fall apart and we're looking for replacements. Thought we might toss a little more money at it to hold her over for a little while, but after seeing the Blue Book on it I don't see a reason to dump 50% of its value into maintaining consumables such as brakes much more an actual repair which looks to be inevitable at its current status.

What would be the best all around car (gas mileage, comfort, spacious, modern amenities, reliable, "cheap" maintenance, and no piece-of-junk factor) around that $20k mark? Obviously we'll be looking used at that price mark. It pains me how the VW GTI checks just about every box, but I have vowed to never own another VW after my mega headaches with my past cars.

Specifics? Sporty? Lots of cargo room? Suv? German, American, Asian?
