CPO question

For a 2015 with 42,000 miles listed at 52,000....Can I apply the "take 6%" off of MSRP rule or is it different with CPO M3s?

I feel like $48,000 is more realistic.

You cannot. The 6-7% suggestion (I would not say rule) is for new cars. MSRP by definition is only meant for new cars. The X% off is to find the invoice numbers. With used cars the difference between what the dealer paid and what they are selling it for can be anywhere from 10% to 2%. CPO or not does not matter. Realistically I would not expect to get any more than 2-3% tops of whatever the used car is selling for, especially a CPO. But that is from my experience.

Agree with above in terms of negotiating a CPO car - the depreciation has been taken into account and CPO cars are of course always more. That said, while I have NO idea at all about the market (and have no idea about the options of the car such as carbon ceramic brakes, etc.), $52K does seem a bit high for a 2015 with 42K miles...

Thank you guys! I didn't find much information so wanted to get a gut check...Ironically I purchased my 335i from the same dealer for 48k, so I suspect they'll think I'm crazy asking for the same 5 years later :-/

If it wasn't Silverstone....

There are no rules when it comes to car buying negotiations. If you feel $48k is where you want to be then make an offer low enough to allow for some room to meet in that area. If you have a trade-in, I suggest taking it to carmax first to get a price to at least know what you are working with. Then sometimes it is easier to negotiate the "differential" between your trade allowance and the car you want to buy. Good luck!

I would also say that while 42k miles is not high at all, it still may scare away a decent amount of buyers which is advantageous to someone looking for a deal.
