Name that steering wheel!!!

Was checking out this review on all gens of the M3. The E92 has this really nice Alcantara steering wheel, which looks more elegant than the M Performance one. Is it from a diferent car?

I just can't get into the suede steering wheel look... Yea, I know I'm probably in the minority with this opinion...

Much respect! Thought they only made one version with the colored stitching. I love the colored stitching, but I hate the colored piece at the top of the wheel.

I agree with the wraps and matte paints, but the Alcantara wrapped steering wheels are awesome.

I'd like to see what one of those looks like after a few thousand miles. Oil from the hands, worn where you keep your hands on a regular basis, dust ground in, etc. I'm thinking they would wear pretty bad. Might be wrong...

I've had mine for almost six years. I took it off and wash it with lukewarm water and laundry detergent in the bathroom sink, using a sock to rub the alcantara, avoiding the LED display. The water came out nasty but the end result was pretty good.

Alcantara definitely requires more maintenance than a leather steering wheel if you want them looking new/fresh. If cleaned properly and regularly (I only do it once a year), they should look great for 10's of thousands of miles. The ragged out ones you see were clearly never cleaned and/or have a lot of use/miles.

The standard leather wheels tend to look just as awful after 50-75K miles IMO. The leather gets hard and shiny in a lot of cases, not a good look and not a good feel when driving.

I have so many of those things and more

As for keeping the wheel clean, alcantara cleaner, and generally clean hands go a long way.

Or, wear driving gloves.
