European Delivery Question

Hi all, I have a question about Euro Delivery.

My current lease will be up in April and I will be looking for a MY2018 ZCP M3!

I will be studying abroad in London for a semester of law school and am 100% looking to take a trip to Germany. Would it be lucrative to do European Delivery and get the car while I?m abroad - drive it a bit (and have it then shipped back to the States, which is how I assume the process works)?

Who would I reach out to in order to get the ball rolling? The dealer my current lease is with? (Dealer is Oyster Bay in NY - although I am currently in law school in Indiana and technically living in Los Angeles, but I would like to continue dealing with Oyster Bay - they?ve been incredible).

Thoughts or advice?

Yes it is possible to do this. I do not think it will be lucrative but may save you some money.

As to the dealer, there are a few in the LA area that can give you a killer deal over invoice and have extensive experience with ED. However, your dealer could be fine as well.

Thank you for the reply!

I?m going to contact my dealer and see what he has to say and possibly reach out to a couple of dealers I know in LA as well

BMW includes 2-weeks of insurance and registration with ED. You must pay for insurance for up to 5 months max stay. You must drop off the car in Germany for stateside shipping.

Tell your dealer about your extended plans in detail so they can advise the best timing and costs for you to do this.

Are you sure about that? I was given a selection of drop off locations.
See the attached. European Delivery - Drop-off Locations.pdf

Mind you this could be a Canadian thing as well however the OP should look into it as the PDF mentions a drop-off location in London.

If you exceed the 2-weeks/14-day basic stay in Europe. BMWNA has the details -something about the shipping to USA must originate from Germany after the basic stay.

Yes it is right. If you stay for longer than a the time frame allowed for under law it must be shipped from Germany. Basically they cannot ship it across country lines to Germany then to the states legally if it is over that amount of time.

Yup, the drop off locations are only for the 2 weeks, if you stay longer you have to cover insurance and get the car back to Germany ... although I thought the max was 9 months but that may have changed.

It's a good way to get a US price (and tax) on a nice car if you're going to live in Europe for a limited time and want to drive, and since it takes time to ship back, if it's still 9 months, you can basically get a year in Europe (albeit without a car for the tail end).

I thought it was a max of 6 months before the car needed to be shipped to the US.

FYI. You can drop off a car at other locations outside of Germany after the initial 2 weeks. The customer just needs to pay for the extra insurance. My father kept his 1st ED a few years ago in Europe for 3+ weeks and dropped off in Nice.

There is a limit though now. After a certain time frame you must drop it off in Germany

Max time is 5 months (3 months if you're with BMWFS). I don't think there's are requirement to ship from locations in Germany.

You're right.
It says if you choose 3, 4, or 5 months, you must ship back from Germany.
