Dealer ZCP silver to black rim swap?

I am in negotiations with a dealer on a ZCP which has the silver 666M rims. Dealer has other cars with black 666M rims. Requested a wheel swap but was rejected as its coded with the order.

Is anyone aware of any workarounds to this for the dealer? I understand sometimes people needed to be pointed a direction.

If not, no biggie....I can live with silver.

Thanks!

No workarounds. The dealer is right, wheels are coded (vin) to the car and the MSRP. They cannot sell it altered by taking away or swapping a part unless it is M performance.

The only workaround is to buy the wheels and put them on.

Thanks for the responses. I figured they were right, just holding hope that they were missing something. A purchase of the setup certainly is too expensive. Looks like if I make the deal, I will be posting for a trade. I'm thinking there is not much of a market for black to silver trade.

Sorry guys. I ordered mine with the black ones and dealer told me I can switch them if I want before I sign for the car.

I'm picking the car up tomorrow. It depends on your dealer.

Maybe it is different in Canada, but in the states this is a much harder proposition. Then again I have had salesman tell me shit like that and when I ask to do it a Manager says no the CA was wrong.

The dealer probably has someone who wants the black ones.

I doubt it since he advised me of this when I ordered it back in August. Just good customer service? I was unsure about the black ones which is why he offered this to me.

OP I tried the same thing and it was a no go as well...

For the person who did get their wheels swapped, they probably had someone ready to take them.

Yes, it's coded with the order but some dealers are willing to look the other direction depending if you talk to someone in charge and how bad they want to sell the car.

Trading for the black wheels with another M3 owner once you buy the car will prove to be difficult. If you absolutely want the black wheels I would consider ordering a car. Sounds drastic but at least you'll get exactly what you want and don't have to worry about finding someone willing to switch.

My window sticker doesn't say the wheels are black, but yes, it is on the report as "shadow".

I think it depends on the color of your car. I wanted black because I liked the 19's in black. But with my SMB I think the silver looks better, IMO.

Pm replied.

I can definitely enjoy silver as well. Since the car is AW I’m hoping to have the black/ white thing carried throughout the look of the car.

Requested the sales manager to look into seeing if he can help me out.

My response to you is based upon personal preference, and my opinion, so take it for what it's worth. The 666 CQ2 (Black ZCP Wheels with Silver Face) are a total pain to clean. Upon delivery of my vehicle several weeks ago, I removed the wheels, cleaned with Gyeon, prepped with Gyeon, and coated with Kamikaze Stance Rim Coat. I enjoy detailing my vehicles, and I despite all of the prep I did on these wheels (also machine polished the face and interior barrel of the wheel), they remain a PITA to clean. IMHO, a silver or clear coated wheel looks clean and allows you to see the detail of the wheel, black wheels remind me of missing teeth, the details and aesthetic of the wheel simply disappear. Of course, as I said before in this post, it's a personal preference, but I think that the 666 wheel looks so much better in silver/clearcoat, so much so that I am having my 666 CQ2's stripped and powder coated with a clearcoat. You know what they say about a black car - "when does a black car get dirty?" Immediately after it's washed is the answer and the same applies to these wheels. If your vehicle is going to be a garage queen, then I do admit that the 666 CQ2 wheels offer some aesthetic with certain BMW vehicle colors, but as a daily driver, they just tend to look like shit - their one saving grace is that the face of the wheel has a burnished clearcoat finish, which allows some of the wheel aesthetic to pop through. So don't feel too bad about getting the silver/clearcoat 666, and you'll be too busy working out how to modulate the throttle to retain traction after your break-in period to worry about how the wheels look!

Thorough awesome post. Thank you much for the info. With the detail you provided, I feel as though I would be on the same page with you. Calmed my desire for black!

Thanks!

I get the impression that a lot of the time the black 666 wheel is preferred simply because it's the latest offering i.e. somehow it's superceded the original silver 666. I spent too much time on this decision when I ordered my car - a Tanzanite Blue M4 - and ultimately came to the conclusion that I was considering the black version because of the above. So.... the car's coming with silver wheels.

I prefer black rims, always have. However, not at the expense of easy to maintain products. I was not aware they do not contain the same clearcoat materials.

Your responses here have been very helpful. Pickup the car in 6 days.

I hope you don't regret going with silver (J/K man). Congrats on the new car!

Btw, the '18 ZCP in AW is dead sexy with the new "black" wheels. On a darker car I would go with silver but on AW/MW the contrast is amazing in person on a sunny day. Definitely worth the trouble of cleaning it regularly if it looks this good when clean! From a distance, it also tells enthusiasts "I'm driving an '18 ZCP".

I agree the contrast is what I was striving for. However, the silver lining is less cleaning! The configuration I got is rare, so I'm proceeding with the purchase. Also, I got 0% apr.
