My thoughts on why the E9X is the best M3.
I haven't written in a long time and figured I'd take a stab at it again about the best car I've ever owned. If you've got some time to kill on the toilet, give my article a click and check out my thoughts
It's sort of long but I'm sure you guys would echo my sentiments about the E9X M3, given this is the most biased place to have such a discussion lol. I threw in some of my photos from the past so it's not just a wall of text. Comments/criticism welcome! https://6ixspeedblog.wordpress.com/2...s-the-best-m3/ inb4rodbearingz

Great piece--I actually wished it was a bit longer! And I completely agree that this is the end of the line for cars like this. The engine is such a work of art that I had a huge poster of it made for my garage wall, from the awesome design made available by someone on this very board (forgive me, I lost his name. Whoever you are--thank you!). The guy who printed the poster for me said "You must really like this engine, huh?" And I replied "Yes indeed--it's a masterpiece."
Here's the proof in my pudding: Four months after buying my M3, I sold my 2009 Cayman S, a car I thought was nearly perfect--until I bought the M3. Terry Last edited by WAKman; 10-26-2017 at 12:02 AM.. |

Totally agree that the e92 M3 is the final evolution of its race-breed ancestors.
That's why I ordered one of the last ones when I heard production was ending in mid-2013. 70,000 miles later..........Best car decision I ever made!

Nice review! Naturally aspirated high revving V8, RWD, communicative steering, beautifully balanced chassis. Combined with practically, comfort, the right amount of tech. Created at the zenith of technology and design before the financial crisis and emissions / pedestrian safety regulations gimped development.
I'd add an honourable mention to the DCT gearbox, apart from the involvement factor it really has no drawbacks. Its a massive step over what came before it. There really is no bad choice when it comes to the E9X M3. If I had to complain, the seating position is a little high and modifications have a 'BMW' tax. For the money, there is nothing else comes close. I'd love to have a go in the latest Civic Type-R though, performance and fun factor for the money is incredible. |

Great article, and I can guess that from your username you don't care much for it, but I think more credit is due to the DCT as well. If every there was a transmission to be as excited about as the engine, this is probably it. And it works so seamlessly with the engine...

I must say I didn't expect such an overwhelmingly positive response. Thanks for the feedback, guys!
And the DCT omission was in the interest of catering to the more nostalgic aspect of why I bought this car and saving the manuals (not that there's anything wrong with DCT of course) and to keep the length down. Lord knows I can go on and on about this car and all of it's iterations (coupe/sedan/convertible). Perhaps I'll do more write-ups in the coming days, I truly enjoy talking about this car!

Exquisitely written article and outstanding photos. I'm already trying to figure out a way to pirate a hi-def copy of that engine photo! If my engine doesn't blow up due to RB failure, this will likely be the best car I've ever owned. Gorgeous, fast, comfortable, great sounding, exclusive, luxurious ... "special".

Thoroughly enjoyed your words. I could feel the steering wheel in my hands and hear the unrelenting magnificent roar of the V8 as I was reading!
