Whistling Sound When Top is Down?
I get this annoying whistling sound every time I put the top down. It seems like it started about a month after I got the car (this June) but I can't pinpoint what triggered it. Anyone else have this problem with their 2011 M3 convertible, and if so how to get rid of it?

Check the windshield surrounds up front around the windshield perimeter. The airflow is different with the top up than down, it could be lifting and causing the whistle. Try to narrow the sound down to a certain area.

did you hear that sound the first time you got your top down?
anyway, check the spots marked on this picture (just found the very first one which shows them) http://dotnetworkaholic.files.wordpr...ain-drains.jpg Problem with used convertibles is that previous owners often do not take care of all the rubber and it either starts collecting a lot of dirt or it gets curved and can start making that sound. And if you did not do it yet - treat your rubber. Here is the best DIY http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=609222 |

What Radiognome said ^^^^
Lubricate everything (though I used NAPA Sil-Glyde) https://www.amazon.com/Napa-7651346-.../dp/B0054DWS1W Bought mine locally at napa for cheaper than amazon. The idea is to get silicone that doesn't have any alchole in it and Sil-Glyde doesn't. A true hands-on application process, but if you have an M3 vert I think you'll enjoy the time applying the silicone. |
