Dealer-swapped wheels
Hello all. As I posted back in November, my M3 was ordered incorrectly, which I did not notice until it arrived at the dealer. In the following weeks I have contemplated all the options, the least of which was still buying the incorrect car. However, their offer to me to still buy it, kept going lower. So I finally decided I could live with it.
As part of the deal, the dealer will be swapping the silver competition wheels on my car for the black ones I ordered/expected by taking them off another new car coming in. I plan to inspect very carefully the wheels/tires as best I can to make sure they are indeed brand new and as good condition as the ones they take off. So, this is not ideal and unconventional, but just thought I'd ask here for any thoughts, opinions, concerns or advice on accepting the car with the dealer-swapped wheels. Thanks again, everyone. |

Dealer swapped wheels happen quite often. As long they are indeed new and all is agreed upon; you don’t have to get anything about the wheel swap in writing unless the wheels are of a lesser value compared to what’s on the sticker.

All options (especially wheels) are on the window sticker therefore attached to your VIN. The only issue I see is if you damage the wheel down the road and an adjuster pulls parts off your VIN, it would state your car came with Silver instead of Black wheels. Other than that, I don't see any issues.
Hopefully the future owner of the donor car they're swapping wheels with isn't pissed off with the discrepancy of the window sticker vs actual wheels he/she is receiving. |

Same thing happened to my car last week. It came with the silver wheels when I ordered black. They made it right within hours and swapped wheels with another M3/M4 on the truck.

I can't see any issues if the wheels are not damaged during the swap. Just keep your documentation so a future buyer can understand why the window sticker notes different wheels.

Is this a common thing?
Same thing happen to me on my order, but I noticed it before the car got to the dealer. It was just after finishing production. But the dealer just ordered a whole new car for me, and it's 4 weeks later in the production cycle. I would much prefer to just swap the wheels on the original one and take it earlier. Original car should be here right around Christmas. |
