Buying M3 out of state help
I live in Ca and am buying an m3 from a BMW dealer in MN. They're making it sound like they do it all the time and I believe them but just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
They want me to get my car smogged once delivered and have a vin check performed (whatever that is) and send that back to them in MN. Said they will handle everything with DMV and that I will receive my registration in the mail just like I do when buying a new car in Ca. Anyone have experience buying new from out of state and having car shipped to Ca? Would love to hear about your experience. Thanks in advance and happy holidays!

I just did this in KY and had to do the VIN check because that is required here to title or register a vehicle. The dealer wanted it done because they needed a title issued showing the lender, but it can’t be done out of state (this is what we use our county sheriffs for here). I suspect CA has a similar VIN requirement (verification in order to issue title) and It should be smogged too (although if new being a 50-state car it seems the mfgr docs should suffice). This is the stuff in-state dealers take care of behind the scenes.
You can probably google the CA DMV “buying a vehicle out of state” and get all the requirements. |

I just had to get a VIN Verification performed as well a couple of weeks ago when I bought my M3 down in VA and I reside in PA. First time I ever had to do it, and I've bought several cars from out of state before.
I had to go to the PA State Trooper barracks and have a trooper sign off. It was funny, b/c the trooper had no idea why it was needed and he never signed off on one before. Also funny, was his immediate reaction when he saw my shiny new 2018 Tanzanite Blue M3 ZCP, he said: "Holy shit! Is that a 2018?!?" I laughed and asked for a PBA card that I could flash the next time I get pulled over for speeding/reckless driving...but he didn't find that humorous

Welcome to the Tanz Club! You'll love it. What color interior? I have full silverstone and it's the best combination out of the 3 F8xs I've had!

Black interior. I wanted Silverstone but wasn't willing to wait and order one. That's why I'm buying car out of state. I want it now! Lol

Beautiful!
I didn't custom order mine either, and found it on a lot relatively close. It was Tanzanite or bust for me to come back to an M from my Jag F-Type Coupe R!! http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...ight=tanzanite

If you search my Threads you'll find my thoughts on the F-Type--keep in mind I've had two Coupe Rs. I'd rather not jack the OP's Thread. I mean come on, just look at that gorgeous Tanzanite beauty!!!
