Mrf has diagnosed my engine with destroyed bearings and is not salveagable. Anyone know of a good place to buy a replacement? To be economical I'm looking for likely a used low mileage example but am open to anything good that makes sense. Thanks!

Curious, destroyed rod bearings or main bearings.

Given that most yards on car-part are asking between 9-12k for a random used engine out of a wrecked M3, I'd definitely buy the Dinan rebuilt 4.2L engine through Steve Dinan's new business for $15k instead: https://carbahnautoworks.com/product/s65-4-2l-rebuild/

Agreed that is a great deal. I get 10k for my reworked engines with new rod bearings but am out right now.

Low mileage S65’s are getting harder to find and sellers know it. They’re not to be had for cheap any more.

Dinan may want you to supply a good block and crank or may charge an expensive core. Ad does not mention this but does refer to rebuilding your engine.

Just purchase a new or good condition crank.

That's a good option!

I'm assuming one would also need an aftermarket tune to run a 4.2L engine?

Tune should be included, they offer the complete package as turn key...
