What Exhaust Mod do you have?

Hi all

Asking this question in Canadian thread since I want an idea of pricing as well.

Looking for an exhaust mod to make it louder. I already have the competition package but I don't think it's loud enough.

What do you have. Not looking for a crazy expensive full exhaust but something more on the budget side.

Thanks!

I have the MPE and love it. It is not the cheapest out there, but it is fully emissions compliant and fully warrantied matching the car (or two years if there is less than 2 years of warranty on the car). IMO it is the best sounding emissions compliant exhaust that I have heard on the F8X, and I've heard quite a few.

I have the Akrapovic Evolution. I like that it can go from stock noise levels in efficient to pretty loud in Sport and Sport+. The build quality is top notch and its all titanium so the entire thing is like 40lbs

What's the MPE weigh?

Are there any HP improvements with the Akra? I have read that there is no improvement with the MPE.

There probably are some small gains but nothing detectable without a before and after dyno. I actually wanted the MPE but got the Akra significantly less and went with that. I think both are probably about the same in terms of quality although the MPE has had some canister splitting issues in the past and the Akra didnt.

Also not sure on the MPE weight but I believe it was also made out of titanium so it should be pretty light as well.

You may want to try the valve controller first. Amazing how much its closed with the OEM algorithm even during Sport & Sport+. You can test having the valves open by pulling a couple fuses in the trunk (search the forum). Personally it made a huge difference for me having them open all the time. Only time I want them closed is cold start to avoid pissing off the neighbors.

Otherwise a midpipe is not a bad option and substantially cheaper than any of the exhausts. Maybe I'm cheap, maybe I'm poor compared to other M owners, but $3k to 4k is absolutely silly for an exhaust and the gains. I'd rather have some Ohlins or JRZ coilovers.

Meh, Just unplug the valves. Loud enough. Most budget conscience mod there is.

If you want to spend a couple dollars. Buy the plugs from Ebay so your connections dont get gunked up and you dont have to tape them.

Cheapest price isn't necessarily the best choice. Unplugging the valves will trigger EVC codes while not illuminating the CEL, which can be seen if going in for service. You would need to plug in the EVCs and clear codes before going in for service not to raise any eyebrows.

Here's the codes present with EVCs unplugged:

The Macht Schnell EVC will not trigger any codes since the EVC valves are still present in the system and automatically goes into passive mode when diagnostic equipment is plugged in.

Simply food for thought.

Even easier and better is pulling the valve motor fuses in the trunk.

Great to see the impact of an EVC without the cost.

The MPE is 8kg lighter than stock.

The MPE does not provide any gains really worth mentioning, just as any rear section that keeps the all the cats. When you look at the MPE design, I don't see how it can be more efficient. So the MPE likely provides the same type of gains as the other rear section claim (0~10hp).

I find having the valves always open to be too boomy for my taste. There is a fair bit of drone with the valves open when cruising in high gear at highway speeds.

The Akra Evo does indeed sound great .

But it is quite pricey and is not emissions compliant (for those that care). If one elects only the Akra rear section without the Evo mid section to maintain cost down and/or emissions compliance, I find it sounds rather tame.

Aren't the valves already open for the competition package when in sports+?

I have taken my car in numerous times to BMW and have not plugged anything in. They havent said a word to me. I do not believe unplugging the valves has any hinderance on warranty.
