How to coordinate two EDs, 1 east coast, 1 west coast

What is the best way to coordinate two EDs for the same day when one of us will be taking redelivery on the east coast and the other on the west coast? Do we order from the same dealer or is this something that BMW NA/ED department can accommodate when we're ordering from different dealers?

All that matters is that both "parties" need to request the same delivery day in Munich. Every thing else is irrelevant

Good luck

Good luck
My concern is that we have to provide 3 possible dates (as I did on my last ED). How can we ensure we get the same day?

You can't. All you can do is to make sure you request the dates as far out as possible.

I've done six EDs (my cars and friend's cars) and it's an incredibly efficient process. There's one person at BMW U.S. HQ (in Woodcliff Lake, NJ) that coordinates ED dates with the Welt. If either dealer is sophisticated enough to know that person (mine does), they should be able to ask her to coordinate the two pick-up schedules. The only thing that I'd suggest is that your written requests have the same three dates and that they're submitted at the same time by the two dealers.

Just so you know, it can be an iterative process. I usually land in Munich and go straight to the Welt for pick-up, so I'm always looking for a pick-up time that's close to my flight arrival time, and so through direct contact with the Woodcliff Lake person, she's always been able to find the best date with the best time for me.

For my most recent ED, I had originally ordered a 440, got an ED time and date and booked my flights. When I substituted the 440 order with an M4 order, my 440 ED time was automatically cancelled. Together with my dealer, the ED person at Woodcliff Lake then jumped in to quickly grab the cancelled slot for my new order. She was terrific.

Order the same day with the same ED date requests, at the same dealer, letting the dealer know that you want a dual delivery. Change any of that and there may be coordination difficulties depending on dealer communication with BMWNA. A single dealer can set two different dealer redeliveries if they want to.

Thanks, this is very helpful. We'll plan to arrive at least a day earlier from the selected dates as we'll be bringing our wives and kids with us.

submit the same pickup dates. Then its up to BMW to confirm or deny those dates.

high volume ED sales rep will be able to make this happen no problem as long as you give them a few options on dates

What GOLFFRR said. High volume is the key, the dealership 'gives back' the allocation to the BMW NA ED department. You can secure an ED date 6 months in advance. My 3 ED's I have only given one date to NA, but I'm planning 6+ months in advance. The Welt can handle upwards of 60+ deliveries per day, it's not like the PCD which is limited.

I thought it was 4 months out to secure an ED date? You've gotten a date 6 months in advance?

Yes, my last ED was confirmed for 9/25/17 pick-up on 4/17/17 (little over 5 months out). I e-mailed my CA my order specs late March 2017. Individual color delayed exterior color being accepted. I have 26 months until I submit my next ED order.

My last ED was scheduled five and a half months out.

Yes, but as you know, many Germans and other Europeans take delivery of their cars at the Welt. It's a busy place and that 60+ figure is not just for the North American ED programs. For me, it's usually been an iterative process with the ED Department because I'm usually asking for both a date and a time (I usually land, go directly to the Welt and then drive off somewhere). The lesson in any case is the earlier the planning, the better.

A specific time is a different can of worms. I doubt the German and other EU countries are booking 5+ months out. I enjoy Oktoberfest for 3 days and then make it over to the Welt, drop the vehicle off at the tuner while I do track training with BMW M for 2 days, while I pay for a rental car. Many different ways to do ED. Props to you all that fly directly in and pick-up, hope you all are at least sleeping in business class on the flight over. But the ED excitement never gets old! ED is still the BEST way to take delivery of a new BMW despite the lease MF adder, no incentives and 2 month wait for re-delivery.

Ya, I'm a pretty frequent long-haul traveler and am lucky to be able to sit/sleep up front. I've done six EDs for myself and with friends and I always say I do it for three reasons . . . fun, Fun, and FUN!!
