Delivery thoughts

So my wife's M4 will be here in 2 weeks, Need to get PPF put on the CF roof and perhaps the rockers and front end. So should I just have the dealer leave the white plastic delivery film on the car and take it off myself when I get it home or let the dealer remove it. I have a 90 mile drive back home and am already going to put blue painters tape all over the front end to protect it.

I guess I was concerned about dealer washing it and inducing swirls at delivery. So I thought just leave the white film on for protection and no swirls. Then I thought, 1. how hard is it to take this off, I assume not too difficult. 2. What happens if there is a paint issue under the film that I discover at home after delivery?

I know OCD, any suggestions?

Thanks!

I've been in a similar situation. Live in TX and bought a car in OK. Didn't want any rock chips or various debris from the drive back after picking it up. I left all the white film on and also put Xpel Trac Wrap on the front bumper, front fenders, halfway up the hood, mirrors, and rocker panels. I'd be concerned w/ using the painters tape b/c it isn't thick. It may protect from bugs, but it won't protect from a rock chip that shoots up from the rear tire of the car in front of you (aka keep a safe distance). As for potential paint issues you discover after delivery, a standard paint correction from your PPF installer should do the trick. Let him worry about removing the film instead of yourself. However, if there's a ding or dent under the film once it's removed, that's a conversation you'll need to have w/ the dealer.

My advice: Take the car as it came delivered off the truck. Don't let the dealer give it their version of a "detail."

My pleasure! I think the 12" x 40' or 18" x 40' should be sufficient to cover the full front bumper, a portion of the hood, a portion of the fenders, full mirrors, and the front portion of the rocker panels. Also, the application of the film doesn't need to be pretty. By the time you're finished, the front of the car will likely look like a mess of saran wrap, but that's OK. It's all function over fashion at that point!

Say no to the dealer detail.

Get an expert paint correct done at the film place then get the film straight over.

Correct! Cut holes for the grilles and the lower air vents. Also, you can keep the Trac Wrap over the headlights, too.

have the vendor video the removal of the white film, that way if there's an issue under the film you have it on video.
