Heat soak?

Pat's GTS is running like a champ for 4-5 laps at VIR, and then the power starts to fall off for the rest of the run. Getting plenty of water now, so that's not the issue. Has anybody that tracks this car seen any issues with heat soak after a few laps? Any other ideas? We're both baffled!!

Nope. Run her in the heat with multiple laps per sessions with no issues. Need to get it checked out.......rather run out of tire before run out of power.....

No issues for me, even in hot, humid Florida.

OK - so what the hell could it be? Maybe Pat's just an awesome driver that pushes his car further than anybody else has the skill and ability to duplicate? Nah, that's not it.

Have you checked the water level in the charge cooler, and checked the pump and piping? That is a cause of cars heatsoaking and pulling power. Usually throws a code though

Do you see the temp gauge reading high temps? What was the track temp that day? Maybe you had some bad gas in the car. Not all pumps that advertise 91 or 93 actually have that octane (most do but not all). I always blend in some 100 octane when I go to the track just to be on the safe side.

Temperature was cool - mid 60's each time. Oil temp gets to hovering around 250, which I do think is high, but the question is why is the oil getting that hot. Bad gas would be down on power always, not just after 4-5 laps.

Keep the suggestions coming, so Pat does not give up and buy a Porsche!!

Just throwing it out there, but too many late shifts? I put an M5 into limp mode the first M school I did because I was banging the limiter too many times even though I thought I was shifting on time. (I just put a Smartycam in my GTS with ECU connection and my shifts are actually coming at a higher RPM than I was even aware.)

But no, I've never had an issue with power loss during a hard 30-minute session.

Pat's mystery (and misery) continues. All good ideas, so keep 'em coming! Our dealer continues to investigate, including asking me to bring mine over yesterday so they could do some comparisons. This guy won't put in seats and harness until he's sure the car is sound for hard track use, so I guess his safety does have a price tag.
