Question 255/35/19 Winter Square On 437Ms?

With September next month, and winter tires/promotions being available, it's time for me to decide on a new set of winter rubber.

Curious to hear from those who ran 255/35/19 square on their 437Ms.
Would you do it again?
Any problems with traction control, driveability?
Too stretched?

I'm looking to save a few bucks and having more winter tire availability going with a 255/35/19 on all four corners.
Bad idea?

I can’t answer your question exactly but I bought a set of four 437 front wheels and Michelin Alpins in 255/35/19. They worked very well. No issues.

Thanks, but yeah...you did the smart thing and opted for four front 19x9 437Ms, so 255/35/19 square would certainly not be an issue.

I have 437M staggered wheels with 255/35/19 square winter tires. Ran this set up last winter with no problems. Slightly less grip in the back with narrower tire size but overall still good drivability.

Thanks!
What tire did you go with?

Great question, I've been wondering the same. On my last F80 I went with square 18" aftermarket wheels and tires. I still have my 437M's from my last F80 that I'd like to use so I'm in for responses as well.

I spoke to TR, and obviously ideally would be to go with 255/275 winter, but 255/35/19 could work on all 4 corners so long as that particular 255 tire's rim width range is 10", which most are. TR had no concern about traction control/DSC issues.

I also noticed on TR, that going 255/35/19; 285/35/19 (yes thinner in the rear is better for snow) is similarly priced as going with (4) 255/35/19 winters. But TR advised against 255/285 due to the greater front to back staggered widths??? However, I wasn't entirely sure if they were more concerned about such a wide tire in the back for snow or issues related to running 255/285?

Thank you, that's great info! From past experience on staggered snow tires I would recommend sticking with the square tire sizes for traction in snow. The wider tire severely limits traction because of the width. My friend experienced the same on his E46 M3 as well.

Most of my driving is in light snow and sub 50 degree temps since I have AWD BMW to deal with heavy accumulation. The Blizzak LM32 has worked fairly well in those conditions but it looks like TR only has the Pirelli Sottozero.
