slight front wheel rub
Hi all, I have a slight rub in the front after installing new tires/wheels. Everything I've read here led me to believe these sizes would fit and give me room to spare. I planned on lowering with KW HAS soon.
rims: 20x9.5 et 18 front, 20x11 et 35 rear tires: 265/30/20 front, 295/30/20 rear Is it something to do with the offset? Are spacers the solution? Thanks! Last edited by mpsbo; 10-30-2018 at 01:41 AM.. |

What tires are you running?
Can't tell for sure.. but I'm assuming those are Pirelli Sottozero winter tires?

Thanks for the reply. Is it possible the rear rims were mounted with the front tires, and placed in front? Maybe this can't even be done, but I don't see any width indication on my rim.

If your wheels are super flush and your tires have a more square shaped side walls chances are you will rub there on an M3. It may also rub towards the front of the wheel liner too but probably not as bad or noticeable. I'm not sure if F82 owners wheel well liner has that nub hence most M4 owners don't rub there.
The solution is to heat up that area with a heat gun and depress it and let it cool off. After heating up the plastic, I used a piece of wood and a ball to depress it until the plastic cooled off and held it's new shape. Basically deflate the ball, wedge it in there and inflate it. It cools off in a few minutes and you're done. I used a ball so it doesn't damage the calipers but use whatever works for you. End result is it will make that nub more flat and stop the rubbing (at least it worked for me). Whatever you do, try not to melt the plastic liner. When in doubt, use less heat but for a longer period. |

I doubt it. You're going to noticed how stretched a 265/30/20 tire would be on a 11" wide rim. Specs are probably on the inside of the wheel hub if you're still in doubt.

FYI if these are the Sottozero 3s they run large. I just got these in 245/45-18 and compared to the Michelin alpins they replaced (of the same size) they literally looked like the wrong size tire. Something to keep in mind. Looks like rim width and offset may be playing a role here since they don't rub on the other users car with same tires...

I didn't know sottozero 3's were significantly larger.. really haven't read that anywhere. Also to clarify I'm in an '18 F82 so they must rub on M4's too, not just F80's.
