How do you know how much of a tire protecting lip a tire has?

Hi,

I like how some tires have a rim protector where the tire sticks out about a quarter of an inch. How do you know which tires have this protector and how wide it is (some i've seen are pretty narrow and some are wider than others).

Thanks

This all depends on tire size in comparison to rim size. For example, my 255/35/19 on an 8" rim provides about 1/2" of tire protecting the rim. But if you were to put a 245 on an 8", you'd be flush, and a 235 would be slightly stretched.
