Wheel and Tire Insurance Qns

Hi,

I'm curious to know what people have been paying recently (within the last 6m-1y) on Wheel/Tire insurance for 666M wheels. On my 340 with 19's they were asking 3k for it when I leased it 3y ago and I laughed. Luckily I had no issues.

So a couple qns:
1) Has anyone been able to get a good deal on this package through BMW or another vendor?
2) DiscountTireDIrect sold tire insurance even if you didnt buy the tire from them. It was pretty reasonable when I checked (~200 for all four tires). Has anyone bought insurance through them and if so were you happy with the coverage?
3) Can you only buy this coverage when you first get the car or is there a window in which you can purchase it?
4) Can you cross shop dealers for this coverage? I.e. buy the car from dealer XXX and the insurance from dealer YYY.

Thanks!

I picked up mine in March, I am not one to purchase insurance I dont need, but believe their price was closer to 4k.

More importantly, I bent all 4 wheels in July to the point of replacement (for my satistisfaction) on one, and straightening (for my budget, plus it's a lease that I dont track) on the other 3. My SA confirmed the package wouldn't have done anything for me as they could still hold air.

I hit a pretty big frost heave to do it (about 2.5 inches, enough to flip down my rear view mirror and flip up my armrest on impact) at about 75 or so, and all 4 tires survived just fine as far as any warranty would be concerned. If the tires and wheels could take that kind of trauma and still hold air, I'd seriously de-value any unnecessary insurance kn either if them even more.

As the post above points out, BMW does not cover the wheels unless they won't hold air, and there is a $50 deductible.

Also, car no longer qualifies for BMW plan once paperwork hits BMW (or so I was told by pushy finance guy ).

Finally, those wheels hold up well from what I read. Save your money.
