It seems to be coming from the right mirror. At the time of folding there is a loud clunking noise as if the mirror hits the glass.
Please check this video, and let me know if the clunking noise is normal or not.

The only time I've heard a strange clunk from the mirrors is when I've folded them in by hand (during a wash to blow out the water) and then press the fold button to re-open. (Usually I will have gotten in the car, started it, and forgotten that I hand-folded the mirrors in the first place) The mirror motor, which is in the "out" position will move to catch up to the folded mirror and then there will be a loud clunk as it goes back into its gearing. You may be able to reproduce this yourself and compare the sound. Regardless it may be something that is still covered by warranty.

As noted by another poster, mine also make a loud unsettling clunking noise if I fold a side view mirror by hand and then hit the button to correct it. The first time this happened I thought something broke big time.

Yeah, that's a different sound that what I thought when I first read your post. It's not as loud/alarming as the resetting of the hand-folded mirror. It does seem to be working so the dealership might not want to do anything and given your concern over paint issues then it just might not be worth it to you. There's something to be said for learning to ignore all the strange noises from this car.

my 2016 never ever does that. if halfempty didn't give you the answer, have your dealer explain it. let us know how this turns out.
