Normal oil temp / minor oil cooler damage

So I’m 6k miles into ownership, and I feel like my normal oil temp reading has crept up a bit. It used to be a bit below the 220 hash mark, and now it’s a bit above it. What is normal for these cars?

I started looking at the many heat exchangers in the front of the car, and there is some debris in there but not much. Then I looked at the notorious oil cooler, and it looks like something hit it. Some fins are bent. Does this look like it could impact cooling?

Thanks for any info.

Where are you getting your oil temp reading from?

Those ~20 bent fins are not contributing to an increase in oil temp

Engine operating temperature varies with the selected engine response setting. It runs hotter in Efficient and Sport and cooler in Sport+.

Have you checked this?

Extremely minor decrease in efficiency. Most likely not even measurable in a lab.

Yeah I know the damage is minor. Just wondering why my temp seems a little higher. It could just be seasonal/conditions.

I drive almost exclusively in sport mode. I have a long commute, so it’s very consistent... 70-80 mph the whole way, with occasional blips to 130 when I have to “pass”! 😬

Try changing your oil if your always on M1 or M2 since it sounds like you have 5k miles since the break in.

subscribed to see how this turns out, even though i'm with the consensus that a few bent fins is pretty normal. a bug can bend a fin...especially if you're "passing" other cars.

Oh man, I thought that was the water temp. I see the oil lamp icon now.

+1 in the different temp per engine setting (efficient, Sport, Sport+). I’ve noticed that if I park and turn off the car in sport+ mode vs the others, it will almost always kick the radiator fan on to cool the water temp down to a lower threshold commanded by the sport+ setting.

So this is the new normal in Sport mode... when I change to Sport Plus, it drops to below the hash. Does this seem about standard?

Seems about where I am when I drive as well. That's even when driving in sport mode in the 115 F+ desert heat for 4+ hours up and down mountains (with AC on).

This is how it should be. Whay you (think you) were observing was not normal. You're sure you were not in Sport+ when you were seeing the lower oil temps?

Yeah in Sport+ the oil temp drops a little. That is consistent with the lower coolant temp setpoint in Sport+.

Engine temperature touching 250 !!!

For the past couple of days, I am seeing my F80 almost touching 250 within 20 minutes of driving on efficient ? Needs oil change or radiator ?
Never seen this before.

Check your charge cooler reservoir too to see if you have fluid in there. There have been a number of us (myself included) with leaking charge coolers.
