M3 ZCP or CS?
Hey guys
Little dilemma currently in a 18 ZCP 6MT and truly love the 6MT but have an awesome opportunity to get into a CS for not much more than my current payment. I truly love the rarity and specialness of the CS but I am slightly worried I will get bored of the DCT. Who knows if they are going to depreciate and what not. Another dilemma my current F80 is Black Sapphire and my dealer said its my pick between the BSM or SMB they have available. I look forward to your feedback

Take the CS if you can. I was a strictly manual guy and love the DCT. I actually loved it more than the manual in the f80. Also, SMB is the one of the best colors you can get on a BMW. IMHO. Good luck

Go for it. I have a 18 manual zcp and if i had a choice now that would be financially reasonable, i would take the cs for two reasons:
- inability to deactivate rev match has taken the fun out of driving a manual and heel toeing and second there will be no dct in next gen m3. enjoy it while you can. |

If you're worried about the DCT then that's a red flag. Not saying this is a no-go but you should really think about this. Specialty/rarity doesn't matter behind the wheel - driving pleasure does.
The ZCP 6MT (without rev-matching) delivers this in spades. If I couldn't turn off rev matching I, too, would pretty much hate the 6MT.... that's a super annoying feature. However, I love DCT and 6MT equally and so this would be a non-issue for me. If I were in your shoes and could get a CS in the color I wanted (not the color the forum thinks you should get) for close to what I'm paying now, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Why? Because I want the fastest, most badass M3 you can get. Last edited by EricSMG; 01-18-2019 at 07:38 PM.. |

Other than the lack of 6MT (and the ridiculous price), I think the CS is the perfect M4. I had a DCT M4 and traded it for a 6MT M4. Having owned both, I would not go back even for the CS (as much as I love it).

So, the uneducated test driver (myself at the time) really has no clue that the car has a completely (read: vastly more fullfilling) other side. But - I took a chance, bought a 6MT ZCP and oh man is it soooooooooo good. Best shifting manual trans ever designed by BMW and it suits the S55 wonderfully. Sure, not as fast as the DCT, but the long, relaxed ratios work well with the wide sea of torque. |

The CS is the better car, transmission notwithstanding. But when a dealer tries to sell you on "I can get you in this car for the same payment", red flags go up for me because it usually means you're about to get screwed.
What are the financial terms of your current car and the CS deal, if you don't mind sharing? |

I went from M4 zcp 6MT to M3cs DCT. Surprisingly, Im really enjoying the DCT and the paddle shifting. For me, the car feels faster using DCT. I don't miss the manual and Im happy to be in a CS.

Is there really no way to code out the rev matching you guys are complaining about?

Yes, there's a way, but it also de-activate the "clutch-in safety" at start-up.

Test driving an M3/4 in efficiency mode is like going to Costco and not getting a Hot Dog.

Auto-rev match is a deal breaker for some of us... but it's a non-issue since it's super easy to rectify. Luckily for some of us BMW shipped the early '18s without it in Sport+ regardless of TC settings. Quote:
I'd assumed, that like the E46 M3 and E90 M3 (both of which I've owned/own) that the "sport" settings would simply just amplify the throttle response in a shitty way... not realizing that a whole bunch of other factors (anti-lag, etc.) that affect engine response were at play. I literally thought the F8XM sucked after my first two test drives and now realize it's by far the best M3 to date.... by a landslide. Last edited by EricSMG; 01-19-2019 at 07:32 PM.. |

About mid 2018 BMW changed when rev match is on or off. Before, it used to be de-activated exclusively in the Sport+ engine response setting. Now, rev match is exclusively deactivated with DCS off, regardless of engine response setting.
