PSS vs PS4S effective measurements

Hey guys,

has anyone made specific experieces or measurements regarding the Michelin PSS and the Michelin PS4S size 295/30/19, such as absolute tread width, section width, overall diameter, shoulder size/height etc.?

I heard some guys saying the PS4S is "wider" than the PSS, then others say that its just the shoulder that is taller, the tire itself is narrower than the PSS because the PSS has the rim protection section or whatever, so i am looking to find some certain data on that.

Thanks a lot in advance

Hi
I've had both the PSS (BMW star rated) and then the PS4S (generic) in 295/30/20 on my 20x11 rears. The rim protector on the PSS looks more protruding, while the PS4S looks less stretched. So on my car the PS4S was closer to rubbing the wheel arches.

EDIT: Just saw you were asking about 19" not 20".

PSS

PS4S

For a given tire size mounted on a given wheel, section width will essentially be the same for both the PSS and PS4S.

In general terms when comparing generic sizes, the PS4S have either the same or a slightly narrower tread width. However, when comparing generic PS4S to the F8X specific PSS, the PS4S have a wider tread width.

Semi-related, do note that specific manufacturer versions (e.g. Merc) run narrower/smaller given same specs. Perhaps Tirerack sales reps can be more thorough than what you're getting here.

This simply isn't true. It depends on the manufacturer spec; some applications go with a wider tread than generic while others go narrower.

Am I ?

Below are just a few examples of OE specific PS4S running wider treads than the generic (tread width is in 10th columnas measured by TireRack):
